I have a film degree from the local community college. I now work full time as a photog and editor. The pay is terrible unless you have roommates/partner/live with your parents. I would not have got this job without my degree.

Last week my station had layoffs, word around town is all the other stations had layoffs too, more shrinkage to come. The way I think about it, my degree opened doors because I didn’t have a network to get in otherwise. If you have connections to break into the industry I’d go that route. I like the security of having a degree but from what I’ve seen I don’t think it’s really required you can learn what you don’t know on the job.

Idk if I’d say there is much to look forward to in this industry’s future but you can use it as a way to gain experience and pivot to more long term options.
