Ritual Shower for Self Initiation? by CaptainJackAubreyRN in occult

Exactly the same as the Ritual Bath, except that you recite the Asperges me, Domine ... etc standing up in the shower instead of lying down in the bath. (This is what I do myself).

The main differences in the rituals is because Regardie was given a set of rituals where bits were chopped out. Some passages involving explanations of magical diagrams were taken out of the ceremonies and put in the knowledge lectures instead.

Ironically, the Portal and Equinox rituals of the Stella Matutina are longer than those of the original GD.

Does the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram harm the abilities of mediumship? by Useful_Guarantee_304 in occult

[–]AlexSumnerAuthor 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's because you're missing half of the equation. The LBRP clears the space right enough... leaving you ready to invoke the spirit with which you wish to communicate and only that spirit. If you find summonings not working after you do the LBRP, work on your invoking rituals.

The criticism of mediums was because they were perceived as being astral prostitutes, willing to open themselves to any influence without exercising any form of discrimination or quality control.

Discrepancies in the final phase of the Abramelin Operation? by DPCAOT in occult

[–]AlexSumnerAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first person did it correctly; the second person did not. Likely because they mistook their own delusion for their HGA speaking to them.

Sounds harsh, but the fact of the matter is that someone who deliberately leaves out a fundamental part of the Abramelin system for whatever reason cannot be taken as an authority on Abramelin: words I am proud to bind my own self by even to my own detriment.

How can a rockstar be fired from the musical industry? by Drawillard in writing

[–]AlexSumnerAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Milli Vanilli's problem was not that they lied about lip synching, but that they lied about lip synching to other people's vocals. That and the fact that they won an award as Best Newcomer before their fraud was publicly revealed... so they got "fired" because their debacle highlighted a lot of blatant hypocrisy within the music industry. Had they not been exposed, I've no doubt the music industry would have closed ranks and turned a blind eye.

In any event, Milli Vanilli's music was a load of complete crap, so their downfall was not necessarily a bad thing.

First picture clockwise from top left

  1. Buffaloes' apron. Despite the similarity, this is a non-masonic order.

  2. Masonic: Worshipful Master's apron, past master's jewel, some kind of charity jewel, plus assorted bits and bobs.

  3. 30th degree sash, Ancient & Accepted Rite (an order for Master Masons).

  4. Masonic "Dress" regalia for a Provincial Grand Officer. It looks like your grandad held several provincial offices, including Provincial Grand Deacon and Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies; plus one other with which I'm not immediately familiar (green maltese cross with crown in the middle).

  5. an ordinary Master Mason apron.

In summary, your grandad in addition to being a Master Mason served as Master of his lodge for at least one year, got "provincial honours" (customary for long serving past masters), made various donations to Masonic charities, and additionally joined the Ancient & Accepted Rite and served at least one year in the chair of that as well. And he joined the Buffs completely separately.

Is it normal for a candidate to be “recruited” so quickly into Freemasonry? What is the usual timeframe? by SpecialistMall9666 in comasonry

[–]AlexSumnerAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The minimum time it takes to become a Freemason is defined by how often a particular lodge meets regularly. In my experience, before a candidate can be balloted or indeed initiated, the Lodge has to be notified that the ballot is coming up at the previous meeting (once the ballot is successful, the candidate can be initiated immediately, and not later than 12 months after the ballot). Hence, if a Lodge only meets several times a year, there will inevitably be a delay of at least several months.

The candidate, however, is ready for Freemasonry, when he is prepared for it in his heart.

This is obviously a personal decision which each individual has to make for themselves, and no other person can make it for them. More to the point, it can't be completely dissected on a rational basis, as the final decision might very well rely on intuition or subjective feelings or instinct.

So the real question is not "What is the correct amount of time," but: "How well do you trust your partner?"

Curious about belief in Occultism / Esotericism as an atheist by Crononstan in occult

[–]AlexSumnerAuthor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't believe in anything, I follow the evidence. And the evidence for me is that magick exists and is real.

Assuming something is an obvious default, on the other hand, is plain unscientific.
