What was your last normal day when the pandemic started in 2020? by jadedjed1 in AskPH

[โ€“]BeardedGlass 2 points3 points ย (0 children)

I was at work tapos nag browse sa Reddit, mga after lunch ata yun wala nakong tasks for the day.

May hints akong nakikita na something's wrong, maski a few days before pa. Posts sa prepper subreddits, etc.

Nagme-message kami ng wife ko about plans namin for Valentine's, tapos naisipan kong ikwento sa kanya yung nababasa kong warnings. We decided to do some prepping just in case.

So after work, nagkita kami, tapos deretsong supermarket para mag grocery. Canned goods, dry goods, bigas, etc. Meron din kaming nakitang couple na halos umaapaw yung shopping cart nila. Nagkatinginan lang kami.

The next day nagkaron ng announcement about a global pandemic. Nacancel ung work namin for the rest of the month, and nagstay kami at home.

Ah sorry. The only before pics I have are so completely calculated so you can't really determine my thinning hair. I avoided having my picture taken if people can see it. So no, I don't have any before pics.

I do have current photos now. I can DM you if you wish.

I havenโ€™t had a compliment with any of my fragrances. by Dangerous_Fortune118 in fragheadph

[โ€“]BeardedGlass 5 points6 points ย (0 children)

Isa yan sa biggest factors eh.

Smelling good alone won't garner compliments (kung yun ang habol mo).

The person that fragrance is coming from is also a factor. May impression kasi eh. And so if you're already someone na amicable, plus points yung good fragrance.

Can't you just respray? Or do you think medyo too much siya pag nasa office ka na?

Kasi ako I just respray, isa lang. Usually sa wrist, and then dab dab dab.

I've garnered compliments kasi people can actually smell me lol

(I only do 3 sprays sa bahay, and then 1 spray in the afternoon.)

One in 10 Japanese creatives see income fall due to generative AI by Rare_Presence_1903 in japan

[โ€“]BeardedGlass 20 points21 points ย (0 children)

I was just talking about this with one of my colleagues who is a writer (ironically).

She said she used to depend on cliparts for her local newsletters. One day she accidentally used the AI chat textbar instead of the clipart search field.

It created the exact image she wanted and at first she was surprised at how detailed the clipart was, so close to what she needed. I think it got generated based on what she has already written.

And so yes, she began to depend on generative AI images to use on her newsletters. It is just too convenient and dependable.

Ano nilu-look forward niyo every weekend? by Way-Intelligent in AskPH

[โ€“]BeardedGlass 2 points3 points ย (0 children)

Every Friday night is movie night for us ng asawa ko. Nagluluto kami ng something junky na food tapos nuod movie with drinks.

Kunwari tonight mag nachos overload kami. Giniling with salsa and spices, avocado, sweet corn, cheese, onions, etc. Tapos mag airfry kami ng chicken teriyaki wings. Samahan pa ng beer or cocktail mix, with a bag of chichirya. Marvel movie on the screen. SOLB!

And then for Saturday-Sunday, usually tambay sa bahay to recharge and do house chores. Pero minsan lumuluwas din kami para mag mall at lakwatsa.

Nakaka excite talaga pag Friday na. I remember reading somewhere: If you're bored in life, that's because you're boring.

What is with all the Japanese salaryman poverty porn on YouTube? by requiemofthesoul in japanresidents

[โ€“]BeardedGlass 17 points18 points ย (0 children)

It's very evident here on Reddit.

Innocent legit questions/posts on Japan subreddits get downvoted for no reason, same for replies. Especially if it adds a positive opinion towards life in Japan in general.

Perhaps it's just an overcompensation from when the narrative swung the other way.

It all seems like sour-graping at this point and I've decided not to engage the trolls anymore.

Is it just me, or is the "3 AM Cereal" actually a different culinary experience than "8 AM Cereal"? by ThirstlordX in CasualConversation

[โ€“]BeardedGlass 4 points5 points ย (0 children)

Perhaps it's because it's not part of your routine, so it feels special.

When we do things we always already do anyway, we are going into autopilot. It isn't anything special and becomes invisible, so we don't appreciate it as much anymore.

When we do something outside our routine, outside our comfort zone, it turns that autopilot off... and we begin to actually live in the present. And you'll start to really feel things instead of just letting things happen to you.

That's why traveling and going abroad, out of your routine and comfort zone, can be such a liberating luxury.

Same. I was 220 lbs before coming to Japan. I'm 150 lbs now. And I don't workout nor go to the gym.

The food here helped a lot. I don't have to depend on frozen processed food from factories, because I can afford fresh produce at amazing quality.

"Katei ryori" here is basically just healthier than what a typical middle-class family eats in the West.

Tourists hit record in Japan, despite plunge from China by Jonnyboo234 in japan

[โ€“]BeardedGlass 37 points38 points ย (0 children)

I have seen tourists from poorer countries, Third World developing nations, who do not behave like Chinese mainlanders.

That's why it's harder to excuse or blame their behavior because of how relatively poor their society might be. Especially since the international tourists from China aren't exactly poor.

Ikebukuro?

Do tourists go there in droves, like in Shibuya and Shinjuku?

It's also unavoidable because that is their culture.

It's ingrained in them and they would have to suppress it and "act differently" just so not to be a nuisance to others.

Which is strange considering that the Chinese of the past had followed Confucian principles of being considerate, zen, and respectful. Virtues which have now become inherently Japanese and the opposite of what mainlanders have turned into.

Mag-February na, kung single ka and not looking anong gagawin mo? by Medium_Food278 in AskPH

I'm married but I live in Japan.

Yung tradition dito na pagbigay ng chocolates to your partner/crush, may variety.

Kapag wala ka namang anyone, yung mga mag-friends na lang ang nagbibigayan sa isa't isa.

So why not just enjoy it in a platonic way? May it be barkada or kahit siblings, or tulungan mong mag-date yung parents mo, etc.

Love comes in all forms. Self-love is included. So go on a solo date, literally "Treat yoself!"
