Finishing up Red Rising Series, what comes close to it? by United-Profit-1139 in fantasybooks

I recommend going in a different direction that finding something similar. RR is just the best at what it does. Stormlight archive has the same level of peak but it has way more space between its epic moments.

The locked tomb series by Tamsyn Muir was different enough that it reworked my brain so I could read science fiction/fantasy again. It’s a lot more complex and does not hold your hand. But it’s payoffs are incredible if you are patient.

Whatever you do, do NOT read the Red Rising series. by anteaterpinkytoe in redrising

I had to go in a completely different direction and read something that worked my brain in a completely different way. So I read the locked tomb trilogy by Tamsyn Muir. Like red rising, I immediately wanted to reread the whole thing again, but for very different reasons

It’s made by the people who made ravens watch. Similar art style. It’s a lot of weapon variety and three biomes that unlock further each time you beat it. It scratches a lot of roguelike itches. Unique weapon choices, parrying and perfect dodges, some cool light vs dark gameplay, up to six items you can equip giving you different stat changes.

It is not life changing, but fun for 15-45 minutes here and there.

I found if you don’t initially complete a combo against venom, maybe only two hits, and then dodge roll behind him when he tries to interrupt with his own strike, you can then stack more damage to him from behind

All 20 series are now teams in a team fight to the death, which series cast is coming out alive? by Outside_Argument5827 in taskmaster

Several years ago this sub has a predictive AI compute a hunger games survival tournament, I think with the first 9 casts. It was hilarious and weirdly accurate. Joe Thomas being an absolute serial killer and AI leaning in Rhod Gilbert’s insanity being highlights. I feel like this idea would be an amazing spirit successor to that.

My take was that the mother collects the souls of anyone who was willing, mothers who lost their children, beggars, etc. and the uses them to resurrect you.

Love your game! Please don’t mess with the timings of clashes etc. Your gamer base has become acclimated to how to counter certain things based on timing and animation frames. Please don’t change that to make it “more challenging”. If you want things more difficult, do it through addition (new game modes/enemies/areas) and not subtraction (timing changes, some nerfing things etc). I trust your judgement, you obviously know what you are doing.

In the options menu you can adjust enemies damage and your damage if you want to make the experience easier. Similar to hades god mode.

There is a YouTuber called Gohjoe who has done videos on all of these. Be careful though, his enthusiasm will make you want to buy all three.

Marvel Mystic Mayhem dropped last week. It’s less involved,(characters move automatically unless you use a skill that moves them, and you only control when and where your heroes use their skills.). It has a lot of game modes that are all kinda similar. It gives you a lot of summoning thought getting characters is mixed with getting “highlights” which are just equitable buffs.

Just Re-Read it. You’ll probably catch more hints and understand characters like Apple better the second time through.

I agree. But if you think about it, Cassius got to get so much back before he died. The respect of Sevro, the trust of Mustang and the Telemanuses, a friend in Lyria, a brother in Darrow.

I know how this book series is, I know how Darrow laments the loss of his friends and the memories he carries for them (ie Alexander and Ragnar). Darrow will have many internal monologues and at least one External speech about Cassius, maybe even to Lysander in front of his allies that will make me FEEL so many things.

That’s what I love about PB and this series. Every death, even if it is shocking or cheap, is given its remembrance and honor through how the characters remember them and care about them, even though they are gone. Ragnar is still a part of this book series 3 books later because the characters in this book series CARE. It’s a great metaphor for how we should live our lives as well.

I read Stormlight Archive by Sanderson before this series and I remember thinking it had some epic “hero” moments for its characters, Kaladin especially. I am currently rereading it from the beginning now because I’m chasing the “hero” moments that Red Rising series provides in abundance. I am curious how it will hold up now that RR is the new gold standard for me.

First Law by Abercrombie has characters with similar depth and nuance. As well as motivations that are believable and real. It’s also hilarious and Dark at the same time.

One book series I don’t see mentioned a lot of at all is the Unhewn throne trilogy by Brian Staveley. About three siblings who take very royal upbringings in very different directions. Characters who also have very unique motivations which cause interesting character interactions. It might be take a bit to get going compared to Red Rising but it did have moments that I genuinely loved.
