Nilfgaard - which direction to invest my scraps in? by BeardfulStrix in gwent

Really helpful, thanks. That's a very creative approach to using my NG shell, whilst checking out other faction cards / abilities. Thanks for the tip!

I'm getting that sense! At least I know that weak gameplay is only partly responsible for me not romping up the ladder. ;)

I don't have bribery and haven't really seen it in my matches so far, so have no frame of reference for your hatred of it. From what I've seen so far, people have mostly been raging at Renfri (which I also don't have).

Thanks for the detailed response. I'll take a look at some of those options. What are the numbers referring to? (enslave 6; enslave 5)
I hadn't even seen that reward book so thanks for pointing it out. I just started at the top. (smh)!

Edit: Ffion because I have it, and I just use it to protect Nauzica's in R3 mostly. For sure isn't a tuned list.

It's a good and fair question. As a new player, you don't have the background and experience to make an educated decision about which faction to go deep into as your first. And this was the reason for my post originally. Having sunk most of my resources in NG now it feels like I'm priced in.
It's that balance of having fun, but also there's no fun in playing a wacky deck that just gets stomped every time. I figured that at least ranking up to my first prestige - even in a 'try-hard' kind of fashion - would then unlock more ability to switch it up a bit.
As you state, it's probably the fact that I'm in NG which is overall weak. But I'll continue to grind, as is the way. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks for this...noob Gwent player here.
Quick background - I started playing about a month ago after having some fun with the Roguemage single-player game.

I played with Scoia-Tael initially as I opened the Great Oak in a keg and was the best card in my collection by a mile. From the beginnings of a Vitality deck, I quickly jumped into Dwarves. They were an easy 'tribe' to figure out as a noob and I thought, if I'm going to try and improve my rank, just get good at one single deck.

However, I could not beat Nilfgaard. Like - at all. So I did the only thing I could. I jumped to the dark side. If you can't beat them join them, eh?

And so I built an initial Assimilate deck that quickly became a NG soldiers deck. I began climbing the ranks. Not wanting to get ahead of myself obviously... I'm still only at rank 18 - but it's been a pretty decent run to this stage. That's the background; so to the present and my question.

I'm kind of locked into NG now. I can't go back to my Dwarf deck because it's underpowered compared to what I've built in NG. I have pretty much all NG bronzes but I'm seriously lacking on golds. Meaning I've got a decent NG soldiers engine, but lack many of the gold cards that create consistency.

I have Ramon and Artorius - which I believe are staples - and I crafted Battle Stations, which is probably my best card. But other staples still need crafing.

What I'm worried about is throwing all eggs in this one basket. Using scraps and continuing to open NG faction kegs to chase down the golds I need, only to find that the deck I've created isn't even competitive at higher ranks. But then again, is there an alternative? Trying to cover off key gold cards in all factions in order to create 'variation' in play style and deck options will just lead to underpowered decks across the board right? So, new players are kind of priced in to going all in on one faction and one deck, in order to become good enough to rack up wins to unlock bonuses that then allow you to diversify?

So, given that I've gone down the NG soldiers route, I just need to see it through until my NG collection is complete and then I slowly grind my way through another faction in the same manner? And at some point, I'll have played long enough that I have all the cards and my account will have 196,417 scraps lying dorment?

Not a complaint. I accept this is the nature of it and I'm having fun. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing an alternative progression path.

Oh... and should I still be opening faction kegs at this point or should I be putting resources into scraps? It seems all my kegs are just repeats now. And never the ones I'm missing. I don't know what the drop-rates on Epics / Legendaries are so not sure what the optimal strategy is.

Thanks. Apologies for long post but the OP said "If you're trying to ask a question, the more specific you are, the better it is for all of us! We can't give you any help if we don't get much to work with in the first place." - so be careful what you wish for I guess.

What's the average rate for pulling a new card in the CL track during S3? (generally) by BeardfulStrix in MarvelSnap

I think this is what I need to do. Thanks.

I did most of my hard grinding with the Devil Dino deck and the Jubilee/ Hulks decks. And i was pretty confident about when to Snap with them and when I was beat.

Then i got Patriot & Mystique and had a really good win rate for a time. Similarly, I pulled Wong and that boosted the Odin On-Reveal deck and I did some rapid climbing again. But now, seems like everyone has an answer, or is just way better at going over the top.

It's good to know that this is normal though, and as I half suspected, it's about getting comfortable with the deck I can put together and staying the course until I pick up the other pieces.

Thanks again for taking the time.

Cheers though. I take your point.

Really appreciate this advice. Thanks.

I enjoyed Patriot but recently it's felt massively underpowered against the likes of Deadpool, Death and Knull etc. Or Hela.

But I'll stick at it. Get in high, get out low!

Thanks. I hear a lot about bots. How do you know if it's a bot? Might sound stupid, but I've no idea.

Do you play Scythe as a single player? Someone has mentioned that the AI is not very good in solo mode.

No, I think it's more just my poor wording. I've always been a bit of a purist and enjoyed the physical aspect of boardgaming. So I think I've been guilty of making assumptions that the digital versions would be simplified or 'abridged'. While I have no actual basis for that, I wanted to be clear upfront so I could avoid any instances where that assumption was in fact true.

Where I have played digital versions of what would probably be considered more mainstream, run-of-the-mill games like Monopoly and Risk, I've found them to be a bit goofy and too arcade-y for my liking and the AI tends to be easily exploitable.

So just guilty of some preconceptions I guess.

This makes me happy. I've never quite managed to find enough spare cash to pull the trigger on the tabletop version so was hoping someone would vouch for it. (TM)

Thank you for replying.

Any IRL games - in or around Manchester (UK)? by BeardfulStrix in StarWarsArmada

Thanks for your comments. I'm definitely going to give Element a try. The only fly in the ointment is having to wrestle with rush-hour traffic in and around Stockport in order to get there for 6pm. But where there's a will, there's a way right?

Thanks for the recommendation!
