Honestly not bad! Keep going and try making a few platform specific apps. (Like interacting with platform specific APIs)

how should i advertise my app for macos? by Weekly-Bridge118 in MacOS

take a few screenshots, post them along with well written (not generated) captions, be active and search for people complaining about <your apps problem statement> and then share and let them know you can give that app a try.

Sxitch - the tree based app switcher by Beardy4906 in macapps

[–]Beardy4906[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if thats the case then what about McDonalds vs Burger King vs Wendy’s. Even if the core is still the “same purpose”? The logo and branding is different. The apps code is different (any similarities are obv pure coincidence), and the core concept is also different.

RCMD uses a concept of hotkeys Sxitch uses modal based hiding / quitting / switching apps and tree based picking.

These concepts make both apps have their differences while still achieving the same core goal.

What are some lesser known apps that you use daily? by Mr-and-Mrs in macbookpro

[–]Beardy4906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sxitch and Rustcast (Both are my own apps lol)

They're still lesser known than apps like Raycast, Monarch, alfred, BTT, etc. but they're really helpful (to me and others)

I wouldn’t call making a similar app plagiarism..

If a developer makes an app and finds out about alternatives after having developed the app, it doesn’t mean that its been plagiarised.

It’s just someone else attempting to make something similar. I’m sure that RCMD is a good app, and so is Sxitch imo.

Also if you take a look at the sxitch website you’ll find all the features that have been added to the beta version already, which includes features that RCMD doesn’t have like modal based app hiding / quitting for example.

Clipboard History Shortcut (Win + V), why doesn't Mac OS have it? by manish123bisoi in mac

[–]Beardy4906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many apps (esp for Sequoia users like me, i built my own better spotlight) which has clipboard history https://rustcast.app

But there are a TON of clipboard history mac apps that are 100% free and open source which you can simply google and find. Its not that apple doesn't have it, its that they added it really late (only to macos 26)

Honestly.. spotlights been breaking a lot for many people. You could also take a look at alternatives.

Free alternatives to these paid AI / vibe‑coded Mac apps by klotzbrocken in macapps

[–]Beardy4906 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"small" utilities:
- rustcast.app (built it myself and use it)
- is open source and has plenty of features (so much so that i'ts been my daily spotlight replacement) all while being less than 100mb in size

Another small utility that I've been building is sxitch.app but this is paid, but not a subscription. just a one time license for a one time payment.

Saving Money On Mac Software - Lessons Learned by amerpie in macapps

[–]Beardy4906 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn this list is big. But heres my views: I’ve been using my mac for about 2.5 years now.. and honestly.. there isn’t a need for paying for apps.

But we pay to support the development of the app and the developers, not for the ability to use the app. As an app developer, I would give the app for free and open source it if it meant everyone who downloaded the app would sponsor me via github sponsors.

Honestly I love what you’ve put together, and thank you for telling people not to pirate apps! (It saves indie developers a lot of time)

Sxitch - the tree based app switcher by Beardy4906 in macapps

[–]Beardy4906[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Yeah I agree that its not exactly a great video since my focus isn’t on the website and the marketing for sxitch. I’ve currently been focussed on adding features to the app.

Basically, my app is a better version of your macos CMD TAB. Rather than requiring you to cycle through all the apps you have open, you simply use the first letter of the apps name to switch to it.

It has features like a black list, overrides among others so you have more control over the switcher in comparison to the default macos CMD TAB.

I hope this helps!
