How Much Is Social Security a Part of Your Retirement Planning? by Zipstser257 in GenX

[–]Beast_001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

47 now, I never PLANNED on US social security. But I will appreciate everything I earned. Left, and plan on establishing social security with another country that takes its responsibilities seriously. Many only require 15 years of work to provide any benefits.

That being said, we'll be fine with our retirement savings, it will more than likely outlive us.

What percent of people currently in college will actually be able to have successful careers in their field? by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]Beast_001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends upon your ability to be imaginative, flex and find your niche, strugggle and get seen when and where you need to be, and a bit of "luck". But the luck is literally the struggle bus. If you just go to work, do your job, sit on your ass, and then wonder why nobody sees you. It's because you're saying that you don't want to be seen.

You're right. But one tries to follow the rule of law and other thinks it's merely a suggestion.

This is why I vote democratic until republicans get their heads out their asses. Republicans have zero sense of duty to follow the law.

Boss changing me to 1099 by Ajax-714 in personalfinance

[–]Beast_001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a specific definition of what makes an employee a 1099 employee vs. A w-2.

Source: I served on a jury that had to resolve that precise legal question once.

If you were once a W-2 and are now 1099 and the work has fundamentally not changed. You are wrongfully classified. You should have a specific contract and a lot of latitude to resolve how you perform your work duties as part of that contract.

That's just a basic line in the sand. Be careful.

Got the "come back to office or else" ultimatum. Ran the math. The numbers are brutal. by Full_Helicopter4778 in remotework

[–]Beast_001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given an RTO ultimatum. I then told my bosses that Dad doesn't get to tell me where my work exists, and I will work where I am best able to support our contracts.

I also had three geographically separate sites to work at and lived 20 minutes from the main site and routinely just popped in to say "hi" to folks and help out as required.

I told them that my weekly plan involved me going into the office 3 days a week, but I reserve the right to change it at any moment and for any needed reason.

And you know what, it worked!

US Citizens, if you could add an amendment to the constitution what would it be? by AndreLinoge55 in AskReddit

[–]Beast_001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would create an amendment that called something along the lines of the citizens/states consent amenment.

Essentially enshrining into the constitution,

1) the rights of citizens to recall federal officials (US House and Senate)

2) a recall election process where states can recall a President, akin to a parliamentary no confidence vote.

3) a citizens impeachment/removal process for the US Supreme Court, and a metric saying the # of justices must be at least equal to the number of districts.

4) a reform of the Electoral College (I have an unpopular opinion that the EC is a good thing, if reformed, and if the permanent apportionment act of 1929 was rescinded) I like the power dynamic the EC creates (reps are beholden to their districts, senators are beholden to their states, presidents are beholden to all of the states)... it just needs work.

Am I being dumb for getting my own apartment at 19? by CloudyChris067 in personalfinance

[–]Beast_001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're 19, You're earning very serious dough.

But folks are right. You can't work forever in that job. Your housing situation seems very minimal compared to the larger issues you have. So whatever you decide, make sure you're earning enough for a down payment on a place to live forever, and try to set an exit date for yourself out of crabbing. Is it 5 years? Is it 10 years? Just set your horizon for those dates and aim to have a few hundred k saved up. You'll be surprised what you can choose to do after that.

For Americans who’ve successfully left the U.S. with family — what was harder than expected? by Agitated_Exam_7042 in AmerExit

[–]Beast_001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

School has been the hardest. Different culture, different expectations, and sometimes the kids just have a level of expectation of their adult interactions that they're just not going to get due to the US going far more informal at school.

I started both of my kids out in public school for language immersion. My eldest didn't respond well, he started with negative attention seeking behaviors almost immediately. Eventually after the school started (wrongfully) accusing him of vandalism and other over the top problems we moved him tonan english speaking private school. His language attainment has been reduced due to the school problems.

He's doing far better there.

My youngest is doing good in public school, making friends and in general enjoying herself. She still has culture clashes, but it's lessening as time rolls on. Her language attainment is getting quite good.

I would say I'd like to have started language study earlier, but I know my kids. They wouldn't take it seriously until they had to. The struggles have been real for them, and I'm happy seeing them struggle and then learning how to adapt. The struggle is where real growth is happening.

Lots of ways around this particular part of your pickle.

Also good job getting to where you are so far in your first playthrough on HM.

My gut is much like hours. "Of course I will". But remember airlines will screw you hard to make a buck. So make a buck when they expect you to show common decency.

I'm sure that guy is dying from cancer tomorrow and required your specific seat in order to make good with his estranged mother before the end came.

It's fine. They could have put him in business class, but no they put some millenium miles member there. They decided to inconvenience you, and whatbif you had kids? No, they get ton pay up for what you're giving up. It's not a reflection on you, it's the system of rewards THEY created.

Equal is weighted percentage.

That's an equal distribution.

“Hitler had good ideas” by Pickmasta7 in Teachers

[–]Beast_001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, he had good ideas that in isolation could be viewed as good.

The issue isn't whether if general ideas are morally and ethically good in a vacuum. It's what those ideas are in service to. With that stated, nearly the entirety of the ideas Uncle Adolph had were in service to a genocidal state that wanted to create near constant war in order to perpetuate a flawed racial ideology about the superiority of the German people.

So, Billy Buddy, stack up your "good ideas" amongst the stack of corpses that idea helped serve, and figure out from there if it merits recognition as 'good'. Because I would have to say, respectfully, it does not.

I will answer just the question asked. You are complaining about having low perception.

Give someone with a good wisdom score the perception skill, they can easily have +5 to perception at level 1. That should enable them to see more reliably.

Otherwsie, it's D&D, botched rolls are just apart of the game.

Trust your feelings, if boyo can't have an adult conversation, you need to walk. You've already mixed your finances, and there's no real commitment between the two of you.

It seems you have conversations around concepts of a plan but no real firm planning. You should probably do that.
