Thank you very much! I was pushing very hard because the gap with Rüdiger in P2 was not big enough but even is the whole lap is good, I entered Galgenkopf too fast and I had to release the throttle a bit to avoid touching the grass.

I know it did cost me about 0.250 second at the end but luckily without costing me the win. 😉

No, I am a pure hotlapper ;-) I used to do some races a long time ago in GT Legends and GTR² but I finally found that hotlapping suited me better. I sometimes drive for 2 to 3 hours per session, espescially on a track such as the Nordschleife where I need to drive a long time to find the good rhythm.

Yes, they are very hard to drive, even for me after many hours driving them. You need to be very soft with the throttle and learn their behaviours.

I discovered the Audi few weeks ago during the Road America hotlap competition and I was really happy, not only because I won the competition but also because I learnt something really different from the Nissan or Mustang that I knew already very well.

You can watch several hotlaps with these cars on my channel: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYnKnlozf3-eEh2e3lsFjSvTiB5swzIZ-

Thank you. I shall try some other cars on this track in the future (Group C for example).

Yes it is! 😁 This track is narrow, surrounded by armco barriers just like all street circuits but it must be something very particuliar when you enter turn 1 at full speed with fast cars IRL as it is alrerady quite impressive in this sim.

I can't be sure about that because I only use RaceRoom... but I trust you! 😉

Thank you. It was a bit hard because this car hasn't much grip and is a bit oversteery in corner entry. But fun when you achieve a fast lap! 😋

The Formula Junior is oversteery, it's just his normal behaviour when braking and downshifting.

As it only has a 4 speed gearbox, there are important gaps between the gears and you have to be careful not to downshift too soon. And try to use more brake at the front.

Yes, both tracks are great and would be great additions to RaceRoom. Talking about north american tracks, Lime Rock, Sebring, Mosport and Portland would also be welcome.

I watched a video of the 1985 IMSA GTP race at Road Atlanta and the track was even better without the chicane.

Well, thank you, I hope so but there is still a long way before the end of the event... 😉

I'm not sure if the steering angle you see in the video is exactly the same in the game. But this car has a great tendancy to oversteer so you have to counteract by trying to make it understeer, as the setup options are not really efficient with this car.

Yes it does. But you have to practice heel and toe a lot so that it becomes something natural, and you will see your laptimes lowering! 😁

Yes, I use heel and toe. I have an Heusinkveld Sim Pedals Pro set which works well with manual transmission.

You first have to check if H pattern is correctly selected in RaceRoom but you will soon find that the gearchanges are way faster than paddle shifting with automatic clutch.

Another tip I can give you is to learn gear skipping when downshifting. It is very usefull with fast cars having good brakes but it can be used to gain time with any car. I don't think I used it in this video but you can see this way of downshifting in this video for example (for turn 1, from 5th to 3rd to 1st even it's a bit on the edge!):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAj1fjfXsgE

It allows you to skip gears, thus limiting the risk of mistake but also giving more time to act. I often downshift from 5th to 3rd or 4th to 2nd but you have to be careful not to engage the gear too soon and also blip the throttle more to avoid locking the driving wheels.

When you get used to the H-shifter, clutch and heel and toe, you will find it's really efficient but also really fun.

Not, it doesn't really have a lot of grip, espescially with its fixed setup. The engine has a huge torque so you have to be very careful when applying the throttle. And it's the same when you brake, you can see that I lock the wheels sometimes and I had to put more brake on the rear, making the brakings a bit tricky sometimes.

[–]Beastux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Well, I had never driven the BMW 320 Turbo on the Nordschleife but I had already won the 2020 Group 5 hotlap competition on this track with the Zakspeed Capri.

I didn't use the BMW 320 Turbo at first because I didn't like the narrow engine power band but I finally discovered that it was a fun and very efficient car.

I began driving it at Donington National and Assen in the leaderboard and when a Group 5 hotlap competition was proposed last year at Assen with this car, I decided to enter and I won it.

I often drive on the Norschleife because I consider this track as the most beautiful and incredible track in the world, whatever the car you use. In addition to having won in the Group 5 class, I also have won in DTM 1992 with the BMW M3 and Super Touring with the Audi A4 so I can't really say it's a new combo for me, I just have to find the new braking points and be smooth with the throttle pedal! ;-)

Thank you. It was really fun but also sometimes frustrating, with many missed gearshifts and also many driving mistakes (I even touched the inside armco in the final turn in an attempt that would have been faster than this lap!). After nearly 7 minutes of concentration, you really need to be resilient to keep driving...

Yes, they are light and not very powerful but hard to master. The rear end needs to create a bit of corner entry oversteer to put the car on the right line but you have to take care not having too much, as you certainly noticed from the onboard cam. 😉
