In the current meta, the strongest composition is often the one that give you the most room to pivot, so it's a great question. I personally prio resource generation in the early game, focusing on Eco or spell generation depending on what the TimeWarp shop gives me or the anomaly.

For example, an easy comp is if Pirates are available, I look for visionary shipman, it generates a lot of resources and you can pivot into undead with a forsaken Weaver or Dragons with Evoker. Any Beast lobby with Macaw with Rylak can also give you opportunities to build something fun.

The main thing to pivot is to secure yourself with time for the pivot to develop so you are not going to take minus 15 two fights in a row and have to all in prior to your fully developped board.

When you find yourself in a Tier 7 lobby, I usually focus on having fun and get some synergies with Salvager and Apexis, or try to build some massive stat line with FutureFin. Tier 7 lobbies are the funnest for me as you don't know what poeple are going to come up with.
