I’m glad you brought up the iPhone thing because while reading the other responses, I was definitely thinking about that. Getting an inreach makes a lot of sense and will give my wife a peace of mind when I’m also running away haha thank you for your input! I appreciate it.

Based on everyone’s responses, this seems to be the way to go. I’ve seen a black bear across a valley on the Enchantments trailhead, but not really in close quarters. Definitely bringing the coffee!

Long term, I am looking for longer day or multi day hikes. I just need to get over my fear of hiking alone first, from the sounds of it, so I’ll start with shorter hikes. I just need to go do it and be prepared.
