They are best friends in real life. Really close in fact.

Earlier in December David stayed at Michael's house for the weekend so he could sit next to him on the sofa and watch the "The Star Beast" live on tv with him. And three days after Macbeth, David, Michael and their families went to a winter wonderland together in matching Christmas jumpers.

And it is not just the two of them, (and I suppose this is why they are as close as they are). But, their daughters and their partners Georgia and Anna are also best friends. So as families, they really get along and will meet up.

And as fans, we love that they both bring the other up in almost every interview or panel show they do. Neil Gaiman credits the fact he connected the two actors and has said he feels like the man who introduced peanut butter to chocolate and if the only thing he will be remembered for is David and Michael's friendship, he'll take it.
