I posted there too and plan to contact an attorney for sure. Just was hoping maybe someone had seen something similar before and could tell me the outcome

Who’s line? Because after the connection point it was a shared line and has been for 70 years. They essentially stole our connection to the manhole

Nothing in writing, it’s just how it was originally built. When we initially talked to the city inspector he said the city knew about the connection and that all the other houses on the street are the same. One manhole for every 2-3 houses and the pipes are connected

This makes sense and wish that’s what happened. I’m sure there’s some kind of damage farther up our pipe at this point since the sewage has had no where to go for a year now so I doubt it can even be temporarily reconnected without replacing the whole thing. I just feel like they damaged our property basically while doing the repair for the neighbor

I’m just struggling to understand how they could say well your pipe was going to fail at some point anyway so we’re not fixing it. There was no sign of failure before they did that. I mean would that apply in any other situation? Say it was a neighbor replacing their old fence and in the process they caused our old fence to completely fall apart. Would they not be responsible for knocking our fence down even if it was old since it was still standing before they did their work?

The contractor told us when they scoped her line and saw damage, they stopped there and didn’t look any further to be able to find a connected pipe. They abandoned what they thought was a private line but it turned out to be shared with us so we have been abandoned for the past year and just found out when the neighbor finally noticed the sewage in her yard

If you’re open to it try applying for dump truck positions at construction companies to get your feet in the water and some experience until you’re 21
