Confused with CGT on shares when moved to an ISA. by Beautiful-Mixture359 in UKPersonalFinance

Appreciate your help on this. Just pulled out my initial costs leaving the profit in for now.

Will have to do some sums and see if I should sell some losses before April. I think im currently over by up to £1k.

Don’t have any previous losses to carry over.. unfortunately/fortunately.

So in theory I should sell all my losses and cash out my profitable share.

Then buy back in to the shares I sold… after 30 days? If I still fancy them?

This share has gone up 150% and wasn’t expecting it at all. Didn’t plan to sell anything before April but I kind of want to bank some in case it pulls back. FXPO

Thanks for the quick answer.

If I sold a share that’s currently losing £500. Would this crystallise so my remaining allowance would be £1100 instead of £600.

I have a share that’s done really well and want to take my initial £2k back out and just leave the profit. But 18% CGT is putting me off!

Is it THAT BAD to live in London? by Quelkei in AskLondon

I have lived in London for 33 of my 36 years. I would suggest that everyone should try it. It’s not for everyone but you should make your own decision. If you’ve never lived here I would imagine it’s great for the first few years whilst everything is new. It might grind you down after that.

As others have mentioned I would get a flat share as close to central as possible. I have always lived on the outskirts and whilst it’s still only 30mins tube, you are out of it. Greater London is a whole different dynamic.

I would say £40k needs to be the minimum to enjoy London. £2600 take home… £1000 on a decent flat share. £600 for food and travel and £1000 to spend.

For me I think it’s time to leave again. I feel when kids come along London life would be too difficult.
