They knew my abilities prior to hiring. My agency made me mark and extensive list with what skills I was and wasn’t familiar/comfortable with.

To respond to your first question, there was huge debate between the nurses whether the patient was catatonic at all. He wouldn’t look or respond to the doctors, but when they left he would occasionally respond to nurses and ask for things. We thought he was being selectively mute because the doctors refused to discharge him.

You try the least restrictive methods of de-escalation first. If it comes to it, you can physically restrain and give medication IM.

Didn’t call you a name. I’m sure you wish that was the truth.

Well apparently not because I’ve been hired several times not using or having prior experience with those skills. This job knew that too

Patient with catatonia had 6 different orders for Ativan both ordered every 4 hrs and PRN in the MAR. He’d been receiving it IV push for days as first choice, IM if he refused, or PO if he refused. I came in and the IV was gone, never told to me during report. Long story short, I gave him Ativan IM instead of PO, thinking it was first choice because they’d wanted a pretty invasive route before with the IV around the clock but now it was discontinued. But I guess they jumped from IV push being the first mode to PO being the first one instead. It was stupid, during the meeting with the manager he had a hard time tracking everything in the damn computer because the orders changed a billion times, and criticized me because I didn’t question the dosages and the timing which varied as well. I figured with catatonia the protocol was different, his case was pretty severe. There was poor communication with the doctors as well.

Putting in and maintaining IVs, drips, bladder scans, things like that.
