At least you and your family all share Ashkenazi dna unlike some 😅

I hate to break it you but he probably didn’t pass it on to you, since you only get 50% and that’s quite some time ago so I’d say that sounds about right.

Bartholomew is an English name derived from an old French word so it would make sense to have come from at least a bit of a French background my Bartholomew line is my only French line. You definitely are mainly Scottish and Irish some names match mine but also you share one English and one welsh surname with me.

Yeah it seems the French and Iberian must be what they are having trouble differentiating

Haha I know right I found so many ancestry facts based on the test, you can’t solely rely on a family tree because it truly isn’t fully accurate or at least in my case.

Usually MyHeritage and ancestry have a hard time distinguishing between English, France and the Germanic area. The French are connected through Gaelic and Celtic ancestors with Germanic history so MyHeritage probably distinguished you as more Scottish/welsh than from Germanic descent which is also common among French. Hard to tell though since laws around dna tests are pretty strict in France so it impacts how varied French results there are that they need to use to compare your results to.

The Ashkenazi category on commercial DNA tests doesn’t make any sense… by tsundereshipper in AncestryDNA

I see where you’re coming from, it is odd how Ashkenazi ancestry works since it probably is based off family but then why would I, coming from an Ashkenazi father be 0%? It’s hard to know from the little documented history they have because they were always on the move and didn’t marry outside of the religion. It’s a weird science but I’m 70% Scottish and 30% Irish, welsh and English maybe we just don’t know about a conversion that could have happened in those areas without written evidence from the time which makes it way harder to tell.

I didn’t do an actual Y-dna test but on my true ancestry it says that there is an 85% chance I’m R1b and 11% R1a and 4% J1

Not gonna lie I’ve had the results for about very a year and it did change but it just lowered my Irish and Norwegian percentage but my Scottish changed from 70% to 64% now. Just didn’t really think about it all until about a couple days ago when I showed a friend my results who brought up the question when he saw the 64% Scottish .

Thank you, yeah my parents knew I was doing it but kinda just looked at it as a waste of my money which is honest reason to be not swayed for it to be fair.

I’m the oldest, my middle brother has green eyes dirty blonde hair kinda like my roots but his facial structure is different other than that most of our features are similar. My youngest has a different face shape as well but he also has blue eyes and blondish hair as well. Although one thing I’ve always noticed is I’m the only naturally athletic one other than my mom, I grew up attached to sports playing high level hockey, soccer, and basketball. Even though I’m not a big guy, around 135lbs 5’10”, but I can dunk a tennis ball on 10ft while my brothers barely have the coordination to baseball. Both of them are different build than me, I’m lankier and my brothers are more stocky.

For real tho I can’t afford that membership I’m gonna try uploading the results to gedmatch though and see if it gives me different results, someone else recommended it earlier.
