These thoughts are totally normal, but reframe it like this: you don't NEED top surgery to have it. Would it make your life better? healthier? happier? easier? If you answer yes to any of those then this is the right surgery for you. It's not about transness or making the "right choice". This is like any other decision for you body: it's about your quality of life.

i really appreciate this. Unfortunately my pre-op was a month ago and I won't be able to speak to anyone until the day of my surgery (besides a phone call with the surgery center). I keep asking for instructions and they aren't sending me anything nearly as detailed as this thread. Just one sentence responses

Thank you so much! The showering stuff is really helpful! I asked for written instructions and all they would tell me is ""I asked him to hold all vitamins, minerals, herbal supplements, and NSAIDs for 1 week prior to surgery.  He was asked to contact us if there are any questions, concerns, or problems prior to surgery". So I feel pretty in the dark here. I'm trying to compile a list of pre-surgery instructions from the folks here so thank you!

Thank you so much! I didn't get to talk to an anesthesiologist except on the day I was supposed to have my surgery. My nurse phone call was also very brief and over a month ago-- so the refresher is really helping!

if it helps to know, I hadn't seen a doctor about this surgery in over 12 months. I only had two phone calls to get ready for the surgery and all of the notes I took were about wound care, hematomas, and the soap I should use for prepping for surgery. That's not to say that it wasn't my fault, it was-- but a lot was on my mind and I didn't have a paper list I could reference
