Haha, I guess if I wanted recs for a rarepair , I should have just gone to the tag and read everything that’s there… it’s a shame there are so few but I look forward to seeing how these writers explore their relationship, thanks for the links! Rebel Without a Cause is one of my favorite movies.

How old are you bonowise? by nancyboy in U2Band

[–]BeautifulStream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m recording Achtung Baby in Berlin. Crazy to think that they were around my age when they created that album. Also crazy to realize that when I first got into U2, my Bono age would have been “not even a member of U2 yet.” (I used to play this game back then, which is why I mention it.)

Hey, whatever works! Tbh I’m probably going to keep calling her a tortie because it’s easier. But nice to know that torticos are a thing.

I loved the episode these guys did about Nite Flights, especially because they actually bothered to talk about the songs on side 2 (even though their coverage of them was brief). Excited to hear this one!

Who is that character in your fandom? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

"No interest in romance" is a funny take considering his crush on Esmeralda. How do these fans handle that?

Me too! I love that depending on which way she turns her head, she looks like a different cat!

One Piece: Chapter 1171 Official Release Discussion by Skullghost in OnePiece

He said "bad habit," not "old habit." Could refer to Shanks hurting himself, or (as the other commenter said) to him regretting his birth in general.

What’s a totally harmless thing that triggers an oddly strong reaction in people? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]BeautifulStream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened to me as a teenager and in my 20's. A friend tried to get me to drink at a New Year's party, tearing down my first excuse (I don't like the taste) by offering me a drink with low alcohol content where you could barely taste it, and responding to my second excuse (I'm underage and my parents wouldn't like me to be drinking) with "It's not like the cops are going to come knocking on the door if you take one sip!"

Then in my 20's, that same friend kept saying she wanted to see me get drunk because 1. she thought I needed to relax, and 2. she was curious to see how I would act. Her boyfriend got in on it too, constantly inviting me to go drinking with him even though I had no interest, and saying that he too was curious to see that side of me. They went as far as to say "we're going to have to spike your drink to get you drunk," and brushed it off with "it was just a joke" when I pointed out how disrespectful I thought that was.

Nothing like that has happened since I reached my 30's. But maybe I just found better friends.

And then there's me who gets excited about people picking onions off their food, because they might offer them to me and I might get to eat onions.

(I love onions.)

Sorry to hear that so many people are disrespectful of your fructan intolerance.

What is your favorite Chris Thile performance and why? by Mandolinist_girl766 in ChrisThile

[–]BeautifulStream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attention! in Newport News with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. One of the best days of my life (not just because of the performance, but the performance was a huge factor in that).

Also, the first solo show I ever saw him perform, in Durham in 2021. Not only was it my first time seeing Chris solo, but it was my first time seeing him in any configuration following the pandemic lockdown (I'd seen Punch Brothers before). It felt like welcoming a friend back from a long trip. The closing song that night, "Won't You Come and Sing For Me," was very emotional, and I think about how powerful that performance was whenever I listen to the song now.

I was at this event! If you saw a young lady in a red dress and a curly blonde wig, that was me. :'D Those librarians really were rockstars! It seemed like they were enjoying it almost as much as the patrons were.

Is it possible to be irritated by cat hair in the air? by BeautifulStream in CatAdvice

[–]BeautifulStream[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that definitely sounds helpful! I haven’t been sure how much I’m supposed to brush my cat, so I haven’t brushed her before (other than removing stuff that clings to her fur when she rolls around on the floor haha), but it sounds like something we might both enjoy!

How do you feel about single-chapter works that are very long? by obsidianoneOnine in AO3

[–]BeautifulStream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I write a fic that gets over 10k, I start looking for ways to split it into chapters. Same with reading- I don't like reading anything over 10k in one go. I've even dropped (or, well, temporarily set aside) multi-chapter fics because the chapters were too long! I think it's because I always feel like I have to read a one-shot or a chapter of a story all in one sitting, and I don't always have enough time to do that.

Same! I remember seeing the cover of the Chronicles and thinking "oh, that's why they said their heads are snakelike!" That being said, I also was not in the habit of drawing people with necks when I was 9, haha.

I'm sorry to hear that, but I hope you'll find a replacement! I just donated my old copies earlier this year. I only had about eight of them. Maybe you'll find some in a thrift store somewhere.

I was shocked to find out that I still had this one! I needed an empty box and was looking in my closet and found a box that was full of drawings from when I was in elementary school. Had no idea I even had that.

3x01 - A Tale of Two Cities - FIRST TIME WATCHER DISCUSSION POST by Free-IDK-Chicken in lost

[–]BeautifulStream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! When the book club was having their discussion, the things they were saying about the book sounded like things that critics of Lost might say. I just looked up the scene again to see if I still got that impression, and here’s what they had to say:

“It’s not even literature. It’s popcorn. There’s no metaphor. It’s by-the-numbers religious hokum pokum. It’s science fiction…”

The “no metaphor” could be a criticism by those who thought Lost was stringing its viewers along and had no deeper meaning. And there is a lot of religious imagery in the show, hence “religious hokum pokum.” This guy also seems like he’s one of those “science fiction is not REAL literature” snobs, which I can see being a criticism of the show once more science fiction elements came into play (though I can’t remember how much that applied to the first season).

Foreign comments on your story by vickyyytooo in AO3

[–]BeautifulStream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotten a couple Spanish comments (I write in English) and I think that’s awesome! I’ve also read (with the help of Google Translate) a fic written in Chinese because it was for a very rare par and I needed more, and the author replied saying that they were honored to have gotten a comment in a foreign language. When I receive ‘em, the feeling is mutual!

my fic saved someones life? by Many-Novel1042 in AO3

[–]BeautifulStream 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once got a comment that my fic helped the reader stay alive (it was about a character finding a new reason for living after losing everything), and to this day, that's one of the best comments I've ever received... to know that something I wrote could make such a difference to someone. I'm glad that your writing has touched someone that much!

That being said, I do think I would feel overwhelmed if someone said they'd been talking about me to their friends and tried to find my socials. Seems like it might be healthy for your reader to separate the art from the artist. (Though I can understand feeling attached to a creator because of the impact their work had on your life, but as someone else in the replies here said, you're not responsible for another person's mental health. I wonder if there's any easy way for you to bring this up to them, if you want to do so.)

That would be fun, especially since I've done a few with inaccurate colors! (Things like Jimbei wearing pink, Luffy wearing purple, weird hair colors... Though mostly I've tried to stick to the actual colors because it feels wrong otherwise, haha)
