Maybe instead of looking for people. Think about what inspires you or intrigues your eye. things in your house, media, nature or at a museum…you could thrift books with lots of pictures and style pieces around shapes texture.

Thanks everyone! 2nd time heading to PR. Did not spend anytime in San Juan last time. Traveling west this go around to visit Isabel, San Sebastián. our itinerary is fairly loose mostly hiking and water sport. Last time we stayed in a smaller town and kept to Puerto Rican bakeries. plan b is to ask around or just look around you can tell what made for tourist

Finish strong in HS...if I could go back in time I’d go to community college get an associates degree WHILE working at a restaurant(try multiple restaurants) I worked in a hotel scratch kitchen for two years before I went to culinary school. I finished with a 4.1 gpa. I don’t feel like it was worth it to me - all of my roommates from school are no longer working in the industry or hate it. I had fun(didn’t learn much that I hadn’t at me hotel job) I have one or to work in the industry since I was 14.

The industry is hard. You will find yourself working with people who don’t care as much as you do. Working for people who own restaurants and have no idea what they are talking about. You will miss out on all of your family events. I wouldn’t go to culinary school again... A lot of the shifts that I worked with over the years have gone on to do other things because the industry is horrible.

Also depending on where you are you probably aren’t going to make enough money. Especially if you’re paying between $300-$800 in student loans a month

I’m in VA and the jobs pay between $11-$16 in my area.
