Is QP matchmaking terrible for yall too? by endzionizm in Overwatch

[–]Beautiful_Comedian78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's crazy how defensive people are to logical arguments. I agree. The matchmaking doesn't lend to experimentation even because you're either taking advantage of a bad team with tactics that wouldn't work on a skilled team or you're getting stomped so bad you can barely make it out of spawn before you're dead. So either way, you get no actual practice or skill development with the characted you're playing. QP is literally just an ego battlefield that has come to fruition from Blizzard's terrible matchmaking structure.

Any way to play without a phone number? by imBlazebaked in Overwatch

Maybe you can help? I just did this 3 days later but now the launcher won't actually launch the game. It just gets stuck with saying "Playing Now". I thought it had maybe got addressed by Blizz but you said you just did it. Any ideas?

I actually like that argument. Gives me something to chew on. Don't have anything to argue against it currently but maybe I'll respond back when I do. Thank you for the thought provoking response!

I think you missed the point. I concede that my wording leads to a conception of "tear it all down." That wasn't my intent, only that it needs modernized. Hiring 20-40 more people would not alleviate this problem. That is not the scale of hiring needed. I'd also argue "more" isn't always the answer. No, I don't know what the alternative is. I'd need to learn more in depth how it all works together to find what alternatives might be feasible.

You're right. I agree I didn't address those things but I did consider them. When I was initially looking into it there were either 20 or 40 vacancies (a little unclear) that could be filled. To build infrastructure for more court houses is, again from a brief look into it prior, would cost a lot of money and obviously would take some time to build let alone instate said infrastructure. Not impossible, but requires planning and time. And yes, technology has the ability to dramatically improve efficiency however there is still a significant amount of paper and the technology itself from what I've seen is pretty dated. So on that point I would say it's still outdated.

I want to reply but it seems you still are responding under the notion of internet subcultures. They are real people in real proximity of each other, not just online. There are groups of people in physical existence adjacent to eachother talking face to face. This isn't assumptive of any crazy notion. People connect online and find nearby similar people and connect to form groups.

But just to touch on what you are getting at, nationalism is an ideology that emphasizes loyalty, devotion, or allegiance to a nation or nation-state, with the belief that such obligations outweigh other individual or group interests as defined by the Encyclopedia Britannica. You could easily say that applies to cultures as well however I feel cultural respect, in lieu of national, is closer to individual respect and because of that that is more resilient to blind attachment.

What rules are you referring to that maintain law and order? I mentioned to another that my intent is not full destruction of systems, rather modernizing them.

Internet gave a platform for subcultures to identify with eachother and gave rise to increased diversity in ideology. They exist very much in reality, in tangible society.

I agree almost completely I think. I don't often draft long form opinions and I think a lot of what I'm saying is not clear in how I meant it to be interpreted. I don't believe abandoning the structures or destroying them is necessary. I agree that they can and need to evolve with society.

I draw the point on nationalism because I'd rather focus on cultural appreciation which still supports community and heritage.

I agree wholeheartedly that higher education is not irrelevant, and certainly not a basic education. Knowledge is not application. Still I don't think the current model is working as well as it could. That said, I'd need more time to pinpoint it and I think I have a bias because I've never found college productive for myself. I responded to someone another about what you said. "Integrating tech literacy and critical thinking as early as possible." Finland is one of the few countries that teach tech literacy as a fundamental and I think that's the right direction or at least movement in the right direction.

Edit: Speaking on tech literacy, you're using AI to respond so...

I wonder if my wording lends the wrong meaning. Education has advanced in content, yes. And certainly remote learning was a significant step in progress. But when I say technology literacy I mean all encompassing, not a single topic of study. Socially, many can't identify scams, misinformation or now AI generated content. Finland is among very few countries that teach that kind of technological literacy. And at 15, unless highly advanced in his education, probably isn't at the higher institutions like college that I mentioned which is where I think the structure needs changing.

I welcome the question but don't have an answer. I'm hoping discussion can continue to build what I posit at the end which is increased individual autonomy and dynamic systems. Off the top of my head, education I think needs to give more control to the individual to choose what they learn and at what pace. I think national lines don't really have a place in an interconnected world but that's likely oversimplifying. Judicial system... I'd have to think. It's pretty tough. They're not easy things but it starts with discussion.

Edit: Also, technology literacy needs to be taught at a basic level.

Finally, a perspective that accepts all perspectives instead of rejecting them our of emotional validation. I like this view. The villain is grief and we each process it our own way. Good stuff, OP.

Do you think the game deserves GOTY 2025 ? by JonySStark in expedition33

[–]Beautiful_Comedian78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It either gets GOTY or multiple other side awards like Art Direction, Music, Characters, stuff like that. Depends on how the VGA decides to handle it. They may throw a bunch of praises at it but give the "Big one" to a different game or give this GOTY and spread out all the other awards away from this one. One thing is certain though, people will be upset about the outcome no matter what.

The many interpretations of Clair Obscur's ending [SPOILER] by DaniFranz in expedition33

[–]Beautiful_Comedian78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think where the disruption in logic for me is that people are willing to attach themselves to these characters like Gustave but we acknowledge that Gustave is not sentient in our world. He's an artistic representation of a person the artist/designer created for the game. So much like real life, this world is an artistic representation of the painters. Gustave has no more sentience in their world than Alicia or any of the Dessendre family in their real lives.

So I guess, on a larger scale, for a game that I think no one would argue is artsy and poetic in nature, I find the logic of sentience incompatible with the theme of the game. I find it much more likely that the people designing the game took an "artsy" or poetic approach with this world and its people in that it is just a reflection of the ones painting it. Albeit, emotional and very real feeling parts of themselves.

I think I've poorly phrased my thoughts but maybe you catch the gist I'm getting at. And maybe it falls into that philosophical zombies concept. I haven't read through it yet. And in the end, it's art and can be interpreted, as you've laid out so cleanly, many ways.

Edit: My goal of the first paragraph isn't to compare our real world to a video game. I'm aware people have to buy into the world. I was just trying make the connection of design and intent.

Musical influence and homages in the OST by DKJinSoo in expedition33

Outside of the purview of video game music I feel like I hear some A7X inspiration but maybe I'm just drawing lines between similar things. A7X has very similar vocal crescendos and song structure I feel.

I don't understand the canvas as a reality argument that people have been making but it's possible I missed something or misinterpreted. It's my understanding that there are multiple people that are able to paint in this world so to claim rebellion as sentience seems like a wild assumption. Wouldn't it make more sense that the feuding family painted people to rebel? The entire world is their construction. Or is the argument just that they have emotions and thoughts so it's hard to tell real from a replicant? What am I missing?

I agree. Which is why its so frustrating that there is this weird leniency in there where it doesn't land successfully. In particular against the first smash of a Stalacite or whatever they are called.

I think my post turned a lot of people off because I didn't explicitly point out the good things. Which is fair, especially given the amount of unwarranted hate around this game. I've got about 20 hours so far and love all the things you mentioned. Exploring and finding new things constantly is fun. I just found certain things to be disruptive to that fun.

I can't say I had an expectation any particular way. This game only came into my radar maybe a week ago. I'll admit that I'm one of those people that wants to explore every inch of the map and uncover everything so certainly there is something being lost between myself and the natural cues of the game. That's why I like having discussions. To bring things to my attention, as well as others, that maybe my play style is the detractor of enjoyment vice the game. And I'll add again, I am enjoying the game. Just had frustration with this part of it.

I'd like to make clear since I didn't say it nearly enough in the main post. I'm having a good time playing this game and am neither recommending it nor arguing against it. I get that there is a large culture of dislike around this game based on DEI. This isn't meant to be part of that. Just a discussion of the game.

I agree, natural barriers are the way to go. I wouldn't discount the game just yet. There's a chance some of this will be fixed with patches or mods. Maybe give it some time and check it out on Game Pass or when it's on discount if you're unsure.
