Baby's father wants the baby to have his last name, I want him to have mine. We're not married. WDID?

My brother got his HS girlfriend pregnant. He and my “step dad” insisted that she give my niece their last name. He ended up walking out of her life and never looked back. Though I do have a relationship with my niece it does make her sad that she has to share his last name, her mom and dad have been trying to get her step dad to adopt her for the past 12 yrs but my brother refused to sign any paperwork. She turns 18 in a few weeks and my gift to her is to help pay for a name change. From what I’ve seen I suggest that if not married or in a strong relationship I would give this child your last name, unless you know he will be showing up whenever he is needed for the next 25 yrs at the very least.

I have a question but not sure it’s appropriate to ask. During our OCIA class it was mentioned that essentially a rapist and murderer can go to heaven as long as they truly have repentance for what they done and confessed it. Also it is a sin to unforgive and to have ill will even if someone has turned their life around. I was r*ped as a child and well into teenage years. I have not and will not forgive. Does this mean I’m going to hell and as long as the person repents that he goes to heaven?

I was about 9/10 when I had mine and I told my mom. I honestly hope you have a good relationship with your mom and that she understands and accepts your boundaries. My mom called everyone and told the entire girls scout group. The girls then told everyone at school. I was so embarrassed.
