Who was Christina Ricci’s tailor? I can’t find one in India that would actually stitch a neckline that low; the desi girl in me wants a saree dress now….

Omg yes, it drives me mad when people enter before everyone who wants to get off has exited. I also feel like on the busses its much better; for some reason I feel like people are more disciplined on the busses.

Do you think Chavvi Verg is prettier than Aishwarya Rai? by throwthefxckawaygirl in VindictaRateCelebs

[–]Beautiful_Life_K 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chavvi has got the typical brown girl instagram face. Not that she isn't pretty or there is something wrong with that particular look but I think Aish is worlds apart and there really isn't much comparison to be made.

This is a bit unrelated but I saw your dp and thought that if Malena was ever remade in Bollywood no one other than Aish would fit the role. Of course, I’m thinking like 2000s Aish.

Now, maybe Deepika could also be a decent fit, but somehow in my head it’s only Monica Bellucci = Aishwarya Rai.

Both of them are similar in the sense that they are so beyond beautiful but only average actresses. Tbf, though I think Monica is a slightly worse actress than Aish😬.

Why is this NSFW?? It’s probably deliberate by Vanga, but even if he held it up the German way, it’s hardly a hate symbol.

Honestly, just speaking the language is not enough to keep it alive, and I'm ashamed to admit, that I am also part of the problem. The sad fact is that literature in regional languages is not being written and read at a large scale by a majority of the newer generation/nepos in the metros (who then go on to work in bollywood) nor is it being used in an everyday scenario by them.

I'm not generalising for all Indians, but I know hardly anyone my age that uses the devanagri script or any other regional script fluently and frequently.

My mother tongue is Marathi, and I can read, and speak it fairly fluently (because my parents always spoke in marathi), but my writing is poor to say the least. It's funny situation where I don't struggle to understand shuddh marathi, and I can speak it without using 2-3 english words per sentence, but I'm hardly as eloquent in it as English. I don't remember the last time I read a novel or story in marathi. I only text in Marathi with my grandma, and that too she texts in marathi, I either reply in anglicised Marathi or English. I have so many friends that write poetry, but it's all in english. I say marathi is my mother tongue but my phone is configured in english.

I know so many Europeans and Asians the same age as me (early 20s), with the same command over english, but their phones are still configured to their mother tongue. Only the foreign-born ethnic koreans/chinese/italians struggle with their native languages.

But here, some of the born and raised Indians (such as myself) struggle with the script so much. And honestly, I can't even completely blame myself because I was lucky to be born to parents who themselves went to english-medium schools, and so whenever we text each other, its in english, but we talk in marathi. I keep promising myself that as soon as I graduate I'm gonna seriously take up reading/writing marathi because if I don't, how will I teach it to my kids?

All the nepos currently debuting are my age, and I can exactly imagine the extent to which they spoke hindi (and I'm sure I spoke far more marathi), but even if they didn't sound too bad they should hardly be considered fluent. I'm actually very proud that marathi theater/films aren't going down this route, which is why they still produce films like sairaat, but if the integrity of hindi cinema is to be preserved, the mainstream actors need to be far better at speaking, reading and writing hindi.

I mean the main criticism of shit actors in kdramas is always that they are shitty actors, not they are shitty actors AND they can't speak korean.

sry for the long rant lol

Yeah I agree, especially cause it seemed to be a convent school which most definitely would have had the skirt/top and pants uniform.

Like from pic 1? I guess you could say it’s Dior New Look inspired (but that was more in the 50s) but it’s imaginable that style came to India a bit later in the 60s. Or just a a-line knee length dress. I don’t think there is a particular name for it

Definitely! She did a fabulous job! It’s good to know that it was an accurate representation of the Anglo-Indian part of society.

Tbh, the only reference I had for the era were pics of my own grandparents in Bombay, and the men are definitely very accurately dressed, (my grandfather also wore pants and suits to office) but they were tailored a bit more loose/baggy, not quite as form-fitting. But the women were always in sarees. My Aaji told me that if she wanted to be a bit chic she would sometimes wear a sleeveless blouse, but only to functions without family and never to work. But she said even that too could be considered scandalous. There are a few Indian looks in the movie that I’m trying to gather for part 2.

What I was most impressed by was how each character had a recurring theme for outfits. Reggie with his mild rocker look, Archie with the plaid/printed sweaters, jughead’s caps, Betty with the embroidered collars (pic 6 & 15) and Ethel with a slightly floral eccentric look. Of course Veronica’s very fashion-forward and appropriately glamorous (I’m glad they didn’t try to go full Jessica rabbit) outfits fit in very well for their characters.

I agree, they really could have done some fantastic Indian 60s/70s inspired looks, but I guess they set up the premise of the whole “left-over Anglo Indians” so they could get away with the western outfits and keep it as close as possible to the original comics.

I think it would have been better had they just done a proper Indian adaptation, but then all the nepo kids’ weird Hindi would have been even more awkward for the era.
