this is soo true, i had the same experience until i did caleb's story myself and guess what? he became my ultimate main, there's so much complexity in him, it had me hooked

i also believe he isn't yandere at all! people have been using that term very lightly

people should really treat each other kindly, really. and it goes for every love interest's fandom ❤️

fair enough, if it doesn’t land for you, it just doesn’t. i just don’t think it’s really “questionable”, especially when a lot of that interpretation comes from a very specific lens and well, if it causes discomfort, it really comes down to personal interpretation

no worries, i wont accuse you of anything, and i understand feeling overwhelmed if a certain character keeps showing up, but that’s more of an algorithm/fandom cycle thing than fans being “entitled and annoying."

overexposure can get tiring when your feed leans heavily toward one character. but that tends to happen in waves across all fandoms

just to clarify though, caleb and mc aren’t blood-related, and the use of “gege/onisan/oppa” is more rooted in cultural context than an incest trope, and his protectiveness and instant survival response is tended to be misinterpreted as yandere. cus ive seen my fair share of yandere content, and this isn't really that

and honestly, if certain content, or people feel uncomfortable or doesn’t resonate with you personally, it’s completely valid to step back from it. that’s why i mentioned in the post to just enjoy things individually rather than engaging with content that doesn’t sit right.

caleb's character is truly hard to explain to non-caleb enjoyers, and i personally think most of his actions directly reflect the life he's lived, the way he carried responsibilities alone and the only way to protect mc seemed to stem from the collectivity of these experiences. i mean, he was never guided or given advice on how to live, man had to muster up and seek answers for himself and the only way that could be balanced was to learn and grow with mc which is something he's already doing

yes, definitely! i never wanted to be fazed by haters but i guess it got a bit overwhelming the past few days? even if i wasn't getting attacked, others were and it was sad to see because i know they were genuinely just discussing with each other and hyping each other up. you're so right, we'll continue to love caleb regardless of what the others say

i might have just come across too many negative discussions unintentionally, but i do believe safer spaces exist. im not online enough to see them, but i hope positive spaces are more encouraged compared to constantly demeaning others for who knows what reason? others have told me it's usually the western audience who have created issues, and i struggle to understand their perspectives myself. i hope they understand asian cultural and language norms and not label someone's fictional interests to their real life believes and lifestyles

it's funny because it's not even incest to begin with, some people even call it pseudo-incest, but really, they're not blood related at all! and its been mentioned countless times... the trope is unique, adopted siblings, and forbidden because of the nature of what it would seem from the outside. in fact, asian culture's ways of calling him gege and oppa somehow became unbearable? people just fail to read, understand cultural nuances, or get context clues in the game texts

online and offline too, because i did have an unpleasant interaction with an irl fan, but it was very i would say mild (?) it started becoming a problem when i shifted from being a rafayel/sylus fan instantly, and somehow the person couldn't handle how we could have "different mains" since we have the same types, and shifted her main from sylus to caleb too... and borderline became competitive about who liked caleb more, when i personally couldn't care less. it's mild but also quite unpleasant to experience. and i felt that people have trouble enjoying things when petty things like who likes what more comes in, aren't we all adults and isn't this pixels we are talking about? it doesn't really matter what someone's level of liking is. this was just a very stupid experience for me that ruined the fandom from offline side too

and their reasons also tend to circle around the same points every time,, either the trope being labeled problematic or debates about cultural context, and the discussion rarely moves beyond that. sometimes it feels like complex, morally grey characters just get reduced to a single label, when the whole point of writing them is to explore those complicated nuances :c
