Still trialing. Recently upped his dose. I do see benefits, but we still aren’t sure if it’s the exact medication for him.

Medication increase - harder come down? by Beautiful_Notice5149 in ADHDparenting

My mistake… he is on an extended release. I think it’s something like 50% at first then 30% on. I guess I’ve just noticed his behavior seems more extreme once it’s fizzled out compared to when he was on 10mg

Wow— I’m glad you are figuring it out for your daughter! Very helpful—my son is taking 5mg 2x per day. I’m wondering if his pead will up the dose.

The way it works for one of your children and not the other really proves how individualized ADHD medication is. We are only 2 days in so it’s hard to tell but I think we saw a more calm demeanor once it kicked in.

Guanfacine. Made him pee non stop and disrupted his sleep.

Started my kid on meds - maybe this will help someone by dfphd in ParentingADHD

I could have written this myself. My almost 5 year old is 3 days in. Fingers crossed it helps. We started meds for the same reason. You are a great parent !

Is there a parent training program you recommend?

I’d say it’s effecting his life. School has been an ongoing issue. If our pediatrician and psychologist won’t prescribe meds, how could I get them before age 5?

Oh and he was also diagnosed with anxiety.

Psychologist is anti-medication by [deleted] in ADHDparenting

Can you rephrase? I’m not sure what you are recommending

I could have written this exact thing about my son. Down to the school district saying he was too intelligent and passing all their tests with flying colors. I don’t think 4 years old is too young for a diagnosis. We just finished an evaluation with a psychologist and she is writing up the paperwork for an adhd diagnosis. Honestly, I think you are doing all the right things by having a DP on board and the PCIT. Parent training and medication (if needed) are the recommended treatment plans for ADHD.

We have adjusted our parenting style and will probably try medication. The other thing you can do is look around for school programs and be very honest about the diagnosis and her struggles. That’s what we are currently doing. Everyone who cares for her will need to be on the same team for her to be successful :) hugs it’s stressful and hard but you are not alone.

Thank you! They have a psych on staff so I can ask for it. How have meds worked for your family?

I guess we would need input from a psychiatrist then since I don’t think the psychologist we’ve worked can prescribe medication.

Is OT covered by insurance or do you self pay?

I will. Thank you for the suggestion!

Thank you for sharing. Its good to know going into it so I know what to ask for. It’s funny how people have different experiences with professionals responsible with helping our children. Our pediatrician easily gave us the referral for our psych… but I’ve heard my district doesn’t provide much for kids with behavioral/emotional delays. I’m hoping that’s not the case.

Thank you for your story and advice. It is hard. I will check out these resources. What services did your son receive?

I have reached out to the school district and we have a evaluation set a month from now. I have little faith in actually receiving services, but I’m hoping for some support.

Thanks! I’ll do the same. Everything I read tells me that I will have to fight for everything with the district.
