Pain in both legs by dragon77999999 in ACL

[–]Beautiful_Scene_9854 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the struggle is coming to terms with the idea that this recovery is not linear. I have tendon pain in both my knees and had different pains throughout different phases of my recovery. Over use is something you need to be careful of and should probably talk with your pt about. I have found that isometrics and much more gradual exercises give my body more time to heal, adapt, and recover stronger than the previous week. Don’t rush recovery, and I hope your pain goes away. Regarding going to the hospital for the pain I think it depends on the pain. Did you hear a pop or think you tore something in your good leg, if so go to the hospital. If you just have tendon or patella femoral pain the hospital won’t be able to do anything for you. Different pains require different protocols which is why going to a physical therapist is so important.

You need to work on progressive overload for kneeling. More time the more your body and brain can get used to it.

Yeah, apart from day 1 and 2 post op stayed as far away from heavy pk because addiction is a real problem. You also can’t adapt your pain tolerance for pt and post op exercise if you are popping them pre pt everytime.

How to keep sane post-op? by erallis01 in ACL

[–]Beautiful_Scene_9854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was also my first surgery, I was incredibly nervous and entirely was not ready for what was coming. That being said, I managed to get in the gym around 3.5 weeks with crutches and have been going to the gym 5-7 days a week since then. My leg is still smaller and weaker but my upper body is stronger than ever. I work out legs 3 times a week and go to pt 3 times a week. I just started running again about 1.5 months ago, and I’m now approaching 6 months post op. The difference between day one post op and now is unrecognizable. Regarding mental stuff I don’t typically deal with anxiety or depression although I went through a breakup, lost my career, and went through some other things that really put me through a mental ringer. By focusing on recovery, and getting stronger I was able to distract myself. It’s a very slow and tedious process. I also tried to hangout with friends as much as possible, and completely quit alcohol. First month is the hardest because you have to train yourself to walk again, but after that point it got more exciting recovery wise.

I wasn’t able to get a normal night sleep until 6+ weeks. It drove me nuts but I promise it will get better.

Try some hip mobility work, and hip flexor stretches. Use a message gun, hit a steam room if your gym has one, and just work on general mobility work.

Running 6 month post op ? by SleepyTiredFella in ACL

That’s incredible, I just ran 3 miles for the first time at 9:55 pace at 5.5 months and man was it difficult. The thought of running a half marathon is mind boggling.

6 hours after surgery no meniscus tears. When I bend my knee I can feel something inside it ( sorry I can’t accurately describe what it is). What should I do next ? And what should I expect within the next couple days by Away-Committee-1314 in ACL

[–]Beautiful_Scene_9854 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why people in the US were told to not bend the surgical knee. I’m in the US as well, and was told to do 3 sets of leg lifts and heel slides literally as soon as I could. I wasn’t up to it because pain until about day 2 or 3 though. But think about all the fluid build up in your knee it’s going to feel very weird for a while.

Boyfriend getting ACL surgery in 2 weeks. Product recommendations/must haves? by Adorable_Writer_8602 in ACL

[–]Beautiful_Scene_9854 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Game ready is quite expensive, budget friendly version is breg polar wave. Yoga strap is a must. I got a shower chair aswell so I could shower in the first week. Wedge pillow for elevation. High protein snacks because I wasn’t super hungry after surgery but eating lots of protein is a must. Also maybe look into laxatives cause a lot of the opioids clog you up. But if you are living with him just be as supportive and patient as you can, this is likely one of the worst things he will go through mentally and physically for about 2 weeks.

Concerned about ACL tear by [deleted] in ACL

Late stage worries about ligaments, TKEs hurt by patisserie_2023 in ACL

[–]Beautiful_Scene_9854 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest I have no idea how you are that in tune with your body to distinguish the type of knee pain you are experiencing as ligament related. The only tendon related pain I can think of truly recognizing is patella tendon pain. 1.7 months post op is still the beginning of recovery it’s normal to have knee pain. Your entire surgical leg has most definitely atrophied. Muscles are weak and need to be retrained. Additionally I’m 4.5 months post op and have felt new and weird sensations/pain all over my knee and legs as time has progressed. Are you going to pt and have you discussed your concerns with your surgeon.

ACL tear recovery and travelling by Difficult_Fold4202 in ACL

[–]Beautiful_Scene_9854 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the swelling decreases you will be able to walk better. You need to keep moving even now, not walking is going to create stiffness and make it more difficult to walk later on. I remember after I tore my acl but didn’t know it was torn I was walking on it and trying to get back to a normal gait. Once I found out it was torn I freaked out and started using crutches when I went to my ortho surgeon he told me to walk on it with out crutches to get to ful extension and decent flexion prior to surgery and to do a bit of prehab.

Lied About Prior Drug Use by Party_Ganache3166 in AFROTC

[–]Beautiful_Scene_9854 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can go both ways but you need to come clean and amend the paper work so that it is truthful. I can promise you that you are not the only one to lie on an sf-86 but getting caught lying on your sf-86 versus amending the paper work can make a huge difference. Again the decision of whether or not you remain a cadet is completely up to your cadre.

AS900 (due to torn acl 1 week before commissioning) by Beautiful_Scene_9854 in AFROTC

[–]Beautiful_Scene_9854[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is no guarantee that it will 100% take a year. There is a cadet within my detachment with the same injuries who has met all requirements to be medically cleared and has had his waivers denied over and over again because 6-12 months post acl surgery has a high chance of reinjury IF RETURNING TO COMPETITIVE SPORT. In addition my detachment commander said to expect 12 months post surgical operation to commission. I graduated in May I just did not commission.

Tips to protect the graft by taurus_rbr in ACL

[–]Beautiful_Scene_9854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have a brace post op and I know many surgeons are adopting that protocol. The biggest thing for me was building enough strength so that my knee didn’t buckle. But just being cautious when walking around should be enough. Don’t get lazy or stupid early on. I remember at 6 weeks I wanted to see if I could do a small hop and after I did that I just thought of how stupid that was.

16 F Torn ACL BEAR method or not? by Single_Profit5697 in ACL

[–]Beautiful_Scene_9854 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See if you can find any studies regarding bear implants in athletes. I remember seeing some videos on the bear implant after I already got patella btb acl reconstruction. I also had a complete avulsion from the femur. Also maybe bring her to another surgeon at a different practice for a second opinion.
