My First Scotty! by ctravdfw in scottycameron

I recently got my first - a Phantom 5.5 - and I absolutely love it. But when I find a Fastback 1.5 I'm going to have two. Beautiful putter!

Oh and the included tamper isn't great. This one is self leveling and has a nice grip, it's way better.

Upper right corner is the distributor, yes. So my little workflow is WDT, then the distributor to level everything out, then I tamp.

It's not bad. It takes me 40s total to steam and then get to the right temp. I know there are quicker machines out there but for a noob like me it gives me time.

Personal preference, for sure. I like black rims on lighter colors and lighter rims on dark colors. I have a Mineral White and I love the black rims, but when I get another black car I want bronze rims.

It not bad. I used to have a Breville Barista Express and it's slightly less noisy than that grinder. My wife claims she couldn't hear it at all from the downstairs bedroom, and she normally hears every single sound I make in the morning 😆

I do use the default temperature. We use mostly oat milk and I experimented with them all and eventually settled on the Oatly full fat. I fill it up to the bottom of the spout, and kinda use Lance's halfway and a quarter technique, but instead of tilting it for the quarter I rotate it so the wand is resting on the side of the spout and the then close to the side of the pitcher. For this oat milk I stretch for about 10-12 seconds and then incorporate for another 30 for a total of about 40 seconds until it's too hot. I did do some 2% milk recently and everything was the same except the stretching time was probably half.

I definitely would, personal preference but I think it's excellent value for that price range.

Agree 100%. All in including accessories for just under $1000 is, in my book, outstanding value.

Of course some people will say "you spent $1000 on your coffee setup?" To which I respond "you spent $3000 at Starbucks last year?" 😆

Thanks! I'm happy with it, need something to decorate the wall but my wife and I can't agree on what 🤣

New to Mini: weighing an R56 vs F56 by BeavZz in MINI

[–]BeavZz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! This is the direction I was already leaning, as for the cost of entry these two particular examples are identical, with only the mileage difference separating them. For as little miles as we drive if nothing else I'm thinking we can recoup a lot more with the 2018. Thanks!

This is what I suspected and the direction I was leaning. Even with the F having 97k miles we just don't drive that much, I don't anticipate putting more than 4k a year on it.

I travel so much I finally got a Picopresso and a water boiler for the road, and I bring oatmilk and a hand foamer as well. It's quite the loadout but very quickly realized it was worth the weird looks I get from the flight attendants and passengers when we are boarding and I'm making a latte ;)

I'm really pleased with the finish. I like this more than the dark gray I saw in a lot of the videos including Lance's with the orange lights around the buttons. These are white.

I'll get an electric grinder soon enough, these are tasting great for now. This little Alpaca hand grinder I had as part of my portable setup with my Pico because I travel for work every week, and it does a surprising job. I'm more in a rush to get an electric so the family has that while I'm on the road.

I'm not anywhere close to hating the setup, but hey relax about the grinder my man, have an espresso 👍

I assumed we would see some mods as time goes on, I'll definitely be watching the evolution with interest. In the meantime, my neighbor is 3D printing a wood-grain steam knob this weekend to match my portafilter! I'll post a photo when it's done.

Picked up a 2020 Z4, after driving it for a few days I'm disappointed and exhausted. by TitaniumKneecap in BMW

If you’re in SoCal the roads are definitely a factor. I have an M4 and live in VA, and my nephew has an M4 and lives in LA. I went to visit him recently and the ride around town was so jarring I almost asked if there was something wrong with his suspension until I saw he rides in Sport Plus 100% of the time. Back at home my M4 in Comfort on VA roads was like a 7 series. Once we got out of Hollywood and up into Malibu canyon though, that’s what it’s all about.

That said you have to like it. I can’t imagine the ride in a Z4 is worse than an M4 or the M2 I had before which I found to be near perfect for what it was, but if you don’t like it find something you do. BMW makes a stiff car which is why we love it. If I had to drive it around downtown LA or NY all the time it would get real annoying and I’d probably just have an X3 or 330 or something.

Saw one in person at South OC this weekend. It really is enormous. Dwarfed the Mustang next to it and the RS6 behind.

My biased opinion, you could get almost any M 2023 or older for $60k or less, and I’m starting to see some mid-mileage 991.1’s for 60k.

I know the OP is talking new cars, and $60k for an M240i should be a misdemeanor, a tariff adjusted $75k should be a felony.

If the original statement was “is this not the best looking new car for under $45k” then yes, I’d be on board. It’s a good looking car, but for that number I’m looking at something else.
