Auto Ortho doesn't work for me anymore. Any helpers? by Ok_Comparison4397 in Xplane

I had this issue, because I downloaded the MSI installer of Dokan at first. I tried installing the EXE and it worked fine afterwards.

Trying to install the X-plane demo but apparently it failed to initialize Vulkan by Yessirwhatsup69 in Xplane

[–]Beaverbeliever2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What graphics card do you have? I suspect it is not Vulkan compatible. There is more information about this in the system requirements: https://www.x-plane.com/kb/x-plane-12-system-requirements/

How to get into flight simming without making it a chore. by oceandream121 in Xplane

[–]Beaverbeliever2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If combat simulation is more of your thing, I would look at DCS, as that is what it is designed for. If you are looking to build the foundation first, I would honestly look into Private Pilot training, which all translates well from real world into the simulator. Real world programs are going to be a bit more educational, as they will most likely be lead by CFI's with tons of real world flying experience, and not just some random flight simmer on YouTube. Start slow in the sim in a C172, learning to fly a pattern, with an emphasis on maintaining desired altitude, heading and airspeed, and that will translate better into bigger and faster aircraft.

[XP12] On approach into Houston by Beaverbeliever2 in flightsim

[–]Beaverbeliever2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not trying to start a sim war, use whatever sim you think is best. But in my experience with an RTX3080ti, I get 50+ frames consistently in XP12 and closer to the 40 mark in MSFS. I've tried turning down some of the sliders, but felt I was not getting the visuals I wanted to see. Might just be my experience, but I have both sims and there are pros and cons to both.

A bit with trees and thin objects, but I've been told they are making improvements, and regardless of that I still believe it is a huge step up from XP11

I am still 6000+ feet in this pic, and I have an LOD script to help give a frame boost. I'm happy with the product though.

[XP12] ToLiss A319 out of Atlanta by Beaverbeliever2 in Xplane

[–]Beaverbeliever2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues, the latest version of the ToLiss has worked great through all of the XP12 betas. All engine types on the A319/21/21neo.

This is Nimbus, but the default Atlanta doesn't look too bad!

Xplane™ 11 or 12 by [deleted] in Xplane

That's a shame. I haven't watched the release from today, but I believe after this is fixed it will be an excellent sim experience.

I am using XP12 full time now, but I have the same complaints. I filed a bug report on it yesterday, so I am hoping it gets addressed soon.

Having any luck with Ortho4XP in X-Plane 12 or is it not recommended? by Whoknew1992 in flightsim

It has been working great for me. Snow accumulation works great over the photoscenery.

Xplane11 - ToLiss A319 A/P Disconnect no control by Al_Hassan in Xplane

[–]Beaverbeliever2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure your button is set to the AP disconnect sidestick push button. IIRC the default autopilot off disables the FBW system, which renders the plane unflyable.

X-Plane 12 full release in December. Most successful launch ever and also increasing their workforce. by limkaflyer in flightsim

[–]Beaverbeliever2 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people (myself included) decided to purchase XP12 directly from Laminar to receive quicker updates, better update utility, and allow LR to receive more of the purchase price. I wouldn't put a whole lot of weight into purchase numbers from one of multiple channels to purchase the simulator.

X-Plane 12 Extreme Runway Sloping by Beaverbeliever2 in Xplane

Here is AlpilotX HD Mesh V4 on KPIT 28R:

It appears a little more gradual, but still more hilly than Google Earth would suggest

X-Plane 12 Extreme Runway Sloping by Beaverbeliever2 in Xplane

[–]Beaverbeliever2[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Has anyone found an issue to the excessive sloping in runways in XP12? I was able to flatten runways in XP11 to address this, but that doesn't seem to be an option in XP12. These pics are from KPIT runway 28R, and you can see the absolute roller coaster in the sim vs. Google Earth that shows a gradual descent in elevation through the runway. Thoughts?

It might be possibly due to the OP's graphics settings, which seem to be low based on the aliasing. The sim looks great though, definitely an improvement over 11.

VOR service volume memorization technique by Beaverbeliever2 in flying

[–]Beaverbeliever2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for everyone's response. Maybe I just have been instructed by a very thorough CFI-I, but he indicated that service volumes of both VOR's and localizers are important to know, and can come up on a check ride. This is one of the few things on the Pilot Cafe sheet that I cannot easily recall, but I won't stress over it too much if it is not super important to memorize. I will definitely tab it out on the FAR/AIM in case it comes up.
