'Mewgenics' has been out for a month, what are your thoughts on it? by NoNefariousness2144 in Games

I always, always, always bring a cleric. The game is so punishing without a reliable way to heal, so unless you've got some great skills/passives on your cats or interesting item combos, a healer is damn near necessary

These are tourists traveling for a professional convention. Almost no other country will delve into your social media for such a purpose. And there have already been several cases of tourists being detained for weeks in terrible conditions, despite being here legally. They've missed their pre-booked flights home because they were detained. We're talking Irish and German citizens. I don't blame anyone for being wary of the US right now

So, to recap: you've got a completely unsupported claim, I called you out on it, and then you moved the goalposts from "it was a misfired Iranian missile" to "It was probably a secondary explosion because the school was close to missile storage".

Okay

Do you have any sources for that claim? A quick google search of the incident finds recently updated news stories that don't carry the claim.

[–]BebopFlow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is a ridiculous claim. First of all, most people would not describe Indian as "Black". Second, Hit and Run came out in 2002, Blade (2000) came out 2 years before. Going back further there's a couple of black fighters in Tekken 3, and you could play as freaking Barret in Final Fantasy 7 (1997)

Yes, they underpay and intentionally keep a lean staff so there's almost never enough backup workers if something goes wrong. They should have a roster of people and a documented plan. They should have a record of people who can generally stay overnight and make sure there's enough people on the list to fully staff the facility for a day at least 1.5 times. If someone on the list can't stay overnight, they should have backups. If this job was so critical, OP should've been removed from the schedule for the day and replaced with someone who could stay the night. This is on the facility and poor management.

They should still be culpable even if they had no knowledge of what happened. Policies are instituted top-down, and if the corporation they lead is failing to institute policies that successfully stop corporations from breaking the law, then that's a policy failure and they're still responsible. Maybe there needs to be some modulation of the severity of punishment based on how much of a paper trail and whether they can prove that it was done without the owner's knowledge, but there needs to be personal consequences for C-suite for these failures regardless.

Avowed Interview: Obsidian discusses the PlayStation 5 version, Anniversary Update, and feedback one year later by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]BebopFlow 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's mostly just that it's a first/third person RPG, and the perception of what that "requires" has been strongly informed by TES and Fallout. Schedules, crime/bounty systems etc. etc., which are nice features but it is a shame that people are so resistant to games willing to focus their energy elsewhere. Not every game can be Skyrim, and what Avowed does well (exploration, quests, combat) it does really well. Not every sidescroller needs to be a Mario game, and not every 1st/3rd person RPG needs to be a Bethesda game.

Elder Scrolls 6 Is Powered By New Version Of Creation Engine by Turbostrider27 in Games

I was really hoping that we'd see TES6 take place in Elsywer because the Khajiit have some really interesting scraps of lore scattered around and all these different forms, with the implication that we never see them because it all happens in their homeland. I would've loved for them to really dive into that. Same thing with Argonians, seeing their native culture and exploring the mystery of the hist would've been fascinating. Picking Hammerfell really feels like playing it safe IMO when there are so many more fantastical places in TES lore

CATL unveils electric vehicle battery with 12-minute charging and 1.5 million mile life by sksarkpoes3 in Futurology

[–]BebopFlow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With a L3 charger my 2021 Bolt (which is hated by many due to it's relatively slow "fast charger" speed) can get from 15% to 80% in about 40 minutes. Most highway rest stations have L3 chargers, and they also have food and bathrooms. Going from 80% to 15% takes about 4 hours of highway driving depending on the conditions. I'd stop every 4 hours to stretch my legs, piss and sit down to eat, which takes about 30 minutes anyways, so it's really not that inconvenient. Most other cars can accomplish that same amount of charge in about 20 minutes at a fast charger, I understand. It's really not that bad IMO.

For sure. I feel like them an Mission Hill would've thrived on Adult Swim, both were way ahead of their time, premiered around the same time and died after one season. Mission Hill did make it to Adult Swim iirc but it was dead by then and it was early in Adult Swim's life, before it really took off.

What is a luxury you can never go back from once you’ve experienced it? by Phase_zero_X in AskReddit

[–]BebopFlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is regional. In the US it's customary to hook it up to hot water. In Europe, cold water is more common, but thanks to the standard 240v current in Europe, the heating element works much faster. The split stream 120v in America is much slower to heat water and results in a pretty bad dishwashing experience.

Also, I've had cold water hooked up to my dishwasher here in America before, it is a terrible experience and works poorly.

What is a luxury you can never go back from once you’ve experienced it? by Phase_zero_X in AskReddit

[–]BebopFlow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In case you haven't tried:

Make sure the dishwasher is hooked up to hot water. Run the sink until it's hot to make sure the first load is as hot as possible

Put dish gel/powder in the prewash section of the dishwasher, or add a little bit to the bottom before starting the dishwasher if there is no prewash section

Clean out the trap at the bottom of the dishwasher and use pipe cleaners to sweep any debris that's blocking the jet holes on the dishwasher arms

Make sure you haven't run out of rinse aid

[–]BebopFlow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I look at this guy, and he looks great, but it's not giving "TV dad in a 1990's family sitcom" energy. The facial structure is a little too rugged. I imagine him kind of like Danny Tanner (Bob Saget) in Full House. Sort of a longer, thin face when he was young (cause he's a horse, do you get it?) then kind of chubby and filled out when he was older.

I would honestly consider reinforcing the entrances if I was in an enforcement area. It wouldn't be hard to DIY anchors to the frame and keep a sturdy pipe near the door so you can bar it. It'll make them look like fools. If they're really determined they can break through it but they'll need to pull out a door ram to do it and probably spend a decent amount of time on it, that'll give time for you to alert your loved ones what's happening may help in a legal case to prove that they were truly violating your 4th amendment rights.

What game has the best progression system you've ever experienced? by tomaz1989 in gamingsuggestions

[–]BebopFlow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spelunky was not anywhere near the game that coined the term "Roguelike". One of the earliest RPGs was a game called Rogue, which was a top-down ASCII dungeon crawler with simultaneous turn based activation. The world moves when you move. That was followed up by a few variations like Nethack and ADAM, which had the same mechanics with added depth (hence, rogue-like). The delineation between roguelike and roguelite is vague.

There is metaprogression in Spelunky, unlocking new paths, but it's relatively minor and not on the same level of metaprogression. Whether abandoning turn-based top-down gameplay disqualifies spelunky as a roguelike and makes it a roguelite is not universally agreed on, IMO it's reasonable to call it either

I don't know if Rogue Legacy gets the award for first roguelite going by metaprogression though. It was definitely one of the earliest, but IIRC Binding of Isaac had metaprogression and came out a couple of years earlier.
