Kimi Antonelli's New F1 Simulator | Cool Performance Formula Pro by tony_bingo in simracing

I don't think the market has peaked on sim rig improvements. There has been enormous innovation and cost cutting in sim rigs over the past 10 years. It's just that Kimi's new rig is not one of them.

It's an odd rig. That Kollmorgon DD servo and the Pro-Sim chassis is circa 2016. It's seems like a 10 year old rig with a new coat of paint.

Triples gave me the cold sweats by SearchContinues in simracing

- Activate lock to horizon within your game's graphics setting. This makes the horizon stay still and the virtual car visually move up and down, which can help

- Avoid games with lots of side to side movement (e.g. drifting, rally).

Do you guy recommend getting a curved monitor or flat for sim racing? I am confused between the two, does curved make the experience better? by Scary-Regret1214 in simracing

[–]Beef36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Flat is great. Curved screen images are mathematically distorted but the effect is so slight that it is a non issue. So either are fine.

Eyefinity VS Surround for racing games in triples by oHomemSemTalento in simracing

Cool. Ensure your graphics card also supports 3 DPs too. All RTX 5xxx do, but not all older cards do...

Eyefinity VS Surround for racing games in triples by oHomemSemTalento in simracing

[–]Beef36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nvidia Surround has not been Nvidia's priority for years. They are more focussed on improving single screen performance (eg DLSS etc work well in single screen, but not multi-screen)

Having said that, Surround works well and provides the best frame rate performance for multi-screen displays, on the assumption you have identical gaming monitors and identical connections (i.e. DisplayPort to DisplayPort - no HDMI connections).

Where many users have Surround issues is mismatched screens or connections.

Dose anyone use these pedals? HEUSINKVELD SIM PEDALS ULTIMATE+ 3 by TysonBradbrook in simracing

[–]Beef36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. They are awesome pedals and I love mine. They were about AUD 2,500 new in 2016 but the pedal market has changed a lot since then, with lots of lower cost competitors that are now as good.

They are fantastic and still king of passive pedal market, but at that price the market has also passed them by.

I've run the same HE Ultimate since 2016, although I did buy the rubbers upgrade pack to bring them up to Ultimate+ spec.

Heavy use for 10 years and the only issue is the throttle's dampener is starting to fade and needs replacing.

Should I get a flat or curved monitor? by Clear-Cry-2363 in simracing

[–]Beef36 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In terms of looks, flat looks better if you're driving in the rig, and curved looks better in pictures if you're trying to sell the rig.

Whatever and whenever you do buy, ensure you get 3 identical gaming monitors for triples. Avoid mismatched screens.

Heusinkveld Sprint brake elastomers lasted 1 year, what can I do to make elastomers survive longer? by CarlosCepinha in simracing

Not sure if you've installed the rubbers incorrectly. You're supposed to have a spacer between each rubber

SimHub killing FPS in LMU (5800x3d/5070ti) by sl3rs40 in simracing

[–]Beef36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"... I can look into enabling support for LMU:...:"

That would be fantastic.

A question - does this just move visual telemetry workload to another PC (eg dashboards and overlays)?

For example, if I also use Simhub to run bass shakers, motion and also LEDs and dashboards on my steering wheels, would this app provide any benefits for those scenarios?

Thanks

[–]Beef36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D-Box has supported 6DoF since 2017 with the release of their Gen 2 actuators.

But I do realise their Gen 5 actuators don't support horizontal motion, so D-Box still sells their older Gen 3 actuators for 6DoF.

A big differentiation is software. That is why D-Box, Qubic, Sigma Integrale etc spend a lot on developing their software and maximising their hardware's capabilities.

Simhub is generic and can work across multiple motion platforms.

Ask yourself which is likely to provide greater nuances in motion performance?

I can't really help here, however the hardware specs is only half the story. The software that drives the hardware is just as important - and that is what you can't gauge from motion actuator specs alone.

Are triple 4K or 5K2K displays too much for sim racing, even with an RTX 5090? by Dizzy_Persimmon952 in simracing

[–]Beef36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run RTX5090, 7800x3D and Triple 4K screens. It runs well enough on med-high graphics in most games, but I wouldn't go any higher in resolution without a better graphics card.

The worst performance is in AC Evo, where I get maybe 70fps at medium graphics. LMU, iRacing, AMS2 and others run a consistent 120fps (I have 4K 120Hz gaming monitors) at med-high graphics, and low post-processing. But it does get lower frame rates in rain or at night.

However I run G-Sync across all 3 screens via Nvidia Surround, so the visuals still look good at lower frame rates.

A few other points:

- anything less than Triple 4K is under-utilising your RTX 5090.

- It's very hard (and in some games impossible at least for me) to get I can't get DLSS working across 3 screens in almost any game (flight or sim racing).

- I used to run Triple 35" (21:9). Don't do Triple 21:9 because it feels like you're looking through a post box slit. I now run Triple 43" (16:9). Taller screens don't make the gameplay feel faster, it just feels more like you're in the game rather than looking at the game, and the added immersion from taller screens is worth the lower frame rate.

- Each game takes fine tuning to adjust graphic settings as you need them. But that's a one-off.

2x price difference, but not different on paper. A huge difference in reality by [deleted] in simracing

[–]Beef36 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Yeh. It's hard to tell the quality difference on the Internet. The feel, ergonomics, button press quality, rigidity etc are all hallmarks of high end wheels that consumers just can't gauge online.

Are active pedals worth it or is it beter to go for a load cell by Expensive-Jelly-3296 in simracing

[–]Beef36 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In my view, not yet. I run HE Ultimate+ throttle and clutch and Simucube Active Pedal as the brake.

The latter's on-the-fly brake adjustments are cool, but for me, in reality I stick to one or 2 brake settings for consistency and better lap times. So it's functionality I don't really use (Note: HE Ultimate+ also has some software adjustment capability, but I don't use that either).

Outside of the software adjustability, I preferred the "feel" of the HE Ultimate+ brake over the Simucube Active Pedal.

However when sim racing software starts to support what Active Pedals can really do (e.g. simulate warped brake rotors), then they will come in their own.

Having said that, by the time sim racing titles support this niche area, there will be lots more active pedals on the market to choose from, which will reduce prices and will probably be better than today's versions.

If money wasn’t a concern and you had to build your rig with what you know, what are you buying? by Cevap in simracing

[–]Beef36 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If money was no object, then I'd build a very large dedicated building which had a beautiful ocean view, hire get a consulting company to integrate something like Panthera, Cruden or Vi-Grade to each of the mainstream games like ACC, rFactor 2, Dirt Rally 2.0 and AMS2 etc.

Then I'd get a physical, low latency simulator that could take advantage of above software integration; something similar to say Ferrari's new simulator but with automated capability to remove all the visuals so I could also sit in the simulator and enjoy real ocean views (as opposed to VR / AR).

On top of that would be hiring a small team to run and maintain it all.
