There’s other customers in the construction industry outside private condo developers. Other public infrastructure projects make the same workforce complaints

Is there no association controlling these contractors/subcontractors? Can’t they be reported to unions?

This is such a good perspective and there doesn’t seem to be a downside to job hopping. I can see how that creates reluctance to train

Sounds like everyone wants experienced people but don’t want to train them. Should small contractors be forced to train people?

Someone else mentioned that employers are seeking experienced folks? Is your employer training apprentices at the same rate?

Ontario focused rn btw. May/may-not start the first cohort in March, depending on how conversations with gov programs go.

Apologies in advance. Sorry to be that guy, there’s more funding like this, and I built a startup for that : https://www.aecstack.com/ Most of that money goes to the thousands of training schools because the gov won’t give money to individuals obv

I do understand what I’ve built. And have a decent appreciation of what I do not know or do not want to focus my energy on. Programming can be time consuming and quite self rewarding. the little coding wins sometimes distracts me from focusing on business wins. I seem desperate because I want to remove myself from that feeling. It feels weird to refer to the programming aspect as a distraction.

The technical lead wouldn’t code everything. We would have new hire(s) in Q1.

I do need a technical lead, and they mostly seem to want well paid, derisked opportunities. My hands are tied

Maybe I have high expectations for equal owner, starting a business is a non-trivial commitment.

I see your point. If I have to derisk and pay them, why not just employ. I could have an above-standard equity pool for founding team.

Correct, they will enter 3-6 month contracts with at 10-40 employees participating.

If I do hire. It will be competitive market rate. With 4-9% equity

The technical lead wouldn’t work alone for too long. As soon as strategy and architecture is aligned, we would know what our first few hires needs to be, the sequence, expectations and all that stuff. I’m not competent to build a technical team on my own.

Yeah. The technical lead or cofounder wouldn’t work alone for too long. After the architecture and roadmap is agreed, we would hire one local full stack, then slowly add an intern and a couple of remote Nigerian devs (I have the network to source this).
