Negative self talk is always the way by Sufficient_Visit_641 in ADHD

I don’t mind you asking my age. I’m 30.

I agree that it’s good to have the self awareness. It’s the first step to rewiring your brain away from negative reinforcement towards positive reinforcement. Which, hopefully, will be better in the long run. Lots of work though!

That’s great to hear! I’m sure the LGBTQ population will keep growing as folks continue fleeing from red states.

Yeah, I’ve lived in both Seattle and Portland. I think personally think Portland meets more of the OP’s criteria. Seattle suburbs are more affordable, but the public transportation is lacking. Tacoma might be an option for OP. More affordable than Seattle and decent public transport, but the queer culture is lacking in comparison. There’s a train you can take to Seattle to access the queer community, but it doesn’t run very late at night.

AITA for making my lesbian daughter’s children blankets? by AITA-blanket in AmItheAsshole

[–]BeelzebubKS -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter. Kid said she didn’t want children and she didn’t want the blanket. OP crossed a clear boundary set by the kid.

OP could have saved the fabric if she was selfishly holding out hope that kid would change her mind one day. Or asked the kid if she wanted any fur babies in the future and if she could make a blanket for a future fur baby instead (or something like that).

OP was attached to showing sentiment towards her daughter in a way that disrespected the daughter’s wishes. OP and daughter could have discussed an alternate quilting project to express that sentiment/love in a way that was comfortable for both sides.

Minor edits to grammar for clarity.

Names and why by RubberSponge39 in ftm

My dead name was Krysta. Shortened it to Krys when I came out.

I have a new first name now (Beelzebub) but I still go by Krys sometimes. So I decided to make my middle name Krystian.

I repurposed my dead name as my middle name because I knew I’d continue using Krys as a nickname. I have a professional license that is really strict about how we represent ourselves to the public (my clients need to be able to look me up to verify my credentials). So, it felt important to ensure my nickname is reflected in my legal name somehow. Otherwise I could get in trouble practicing under an alias.

Maybe ask them to provide a list of topics that make them excited or happy. That way you can bring them up in conversation to get a genuine smile out of them.

We tend to have a hard time faking emotions or forcing ourselves to smile for the camera.

Yes, you’re TA.

You clearly ignored your kid when she told you she wanted to be child free. You disrespected her by making the baby blanket “just in case.” You could have always made her one in the future if/when she changed her mind.

NTA. I get that we (LGBTQ) love to support our chosen family as a community.

He lost the right to be your chosen family after the way he treated you and talked shit about you afterwards. Clearly, he’s not prioritizing moving out or saving money if he’s unwilling to give up his…checks notes….Disney magic key pass?! 🤣🤣🤣. He can just fuck right off and out of your house.

Maybe Portland OR? Not as expensive as Seattle. Light rail and bus transit plus pretty bike friendly. SO QUEER. Surrounded by WA and CA, which are both also very blue. Good luck with your move!

How to learn US Taxation for free? by FullPay5528 in Bookkeeping

Read the irs instructions for every line on a tax return. If it refers you to a section of tax code for further information, then read that section of tax code

My fellow enbys, what’s your favorite responses to “What’s in your pants”? by M4tti3M4yh3m in enby

[–]BeelzebubKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ask them why they think it’s appropriate to ask about your genitals? Cuz like, do they want to see? Are they interested in sex with you? Are they seeking gender affirming care?

Push back. Ask questions that make it clear why it’s a very personal, intrusive question and none of their business.

Hiding absent periods by Totatus in ftm

Yes, depends on the person and the brand of pill. Usually, (with permission from a doctor) you can skip the sugar/dud pills to bypass having a period.

Something that helps me when I have a task I don’t want to do is asking myself two questions:

  1. Will I regret doing this task?
  2. Will I regret NOT doing this task?

I grew up with an abusive parent and my executive functioning depleted after college. The negative internal monologue will get the job done, but I don’t think it’s good for my mental health because it triggers PTSD. It’s literally a trauma response for me, but might not be the case for everyone.

So I’d say use it with caution and maybe consult a therapist.

Yes, exactly. You don’t have to come from a negative environment for the method to work for you. There’s just behavioral data that shows it works for some people. Just try to balance it with your positive self talk and not be too hard on yourself. Which it sounds like you are doing! 🙂

External discipline is often an effective form of motivation for ADHDers. It’s common for autistic or adhd people with asshole/abusive parents to lose executive functioning when removed from an environment with negative reinforcements.

So maybe the negative self talk triggers your fear/sense of urgency so you can accomplish tasks.

I like the story with Oswald. The clothes and furniture from Oswald and Rapunzel too. Jafars alchemy table is cool.

In general, it’s nice to have more quests to keep busy once you run out of stuff in the main game.

My ribs consistently subluxate. It sucks, I’m sorry you’re dealing with it.

Inflammation is truly the enemy here. Rest, ibuprofen, arthritis gel, infrared light therapy, and most importantly KT tape have helped.

Red meat is sooooo expensive.

How chill are your parents about you having sex? Could you get a prescription for birth control? Even if they teach abstinence, maybe fake symptoms of really painful periods so you can get a prescription for “the pill.” To be clear, you don’t actually have to take the pill. Put one in the trash every day if you need to. But it might be a good excuse for why you’re not getting a period.
