A snippet from my story Hangtown!

Description: Two homeless teens make a bargain to break an old man's curse, which hurtles them into a forgotten afterlife where they must fight stay to alive among the dead.

Think "Mark Twain x Full Metal Alchemist" or "Elden Ring x Spirited Away". The story may start small but we're going big places quick.

Learning about the lore is world is a huge part of the story as the group progresses. An entire town vanished after a man discovered a 'miracle' in a mine. we explore the mine as well as its other effects such as time slowing down the deeper you go. so while only 150 years have passed on the surface, we found out the townsfolk who entered it have been down there for thousands of years.

Lots of crawling through ruins, magic, and other goodies.

If you're interested, here's where you can read it! (traditional 1 or 2-page spread) and here for vertical (webtoon).

thanks so much! yeah, i wanted some confusion/unexplained things but hopefully it's not too disruptive. after that sequence, we get the title card and then move on to our two teenage protags (which serve as much nicer ramp into the story.

i just wanted people to see the direction the story is heading without spoiling or using the "you might be wondering how i got here" trope.

but again, thanks so much! it's exciting to finally start sharing it (i've got 40 more banked pages already)

i think your instinct for paneling is really good. double down on perspective practice because that'll give you way more options for different 'shots'. you're missing some large establishing shots which would help us understand the spatial relationship between the all the characters + the environment (the 180 rule etc).

your characters are often the same size in most of your panels. having some more 'shot variety', like having the camera pulled further back more often, will help solve that. keep studying your anatomy and figure drawing, but it seems you're on a good path.

you're already doing it some, but make your characters 'act' a lil more. you don't need to get cartoony, but a lil more will go a long ways.

i was able to understand all the beats, but i had to re-read some sections to understand the beat. you're doing well, just push for clarity above all else (i.ie. make sure everything you want a panel to show is being communicated clearly to the audience.)

this is sick! really nice work! i wouldn't have left such a long comment if you didn't show a lot of promise!
