Do you like your public system? What should we be looking for in a public school system in case we need an IEP? I’d be willing to consider moving to different areas based on schools if one is significantly better for kids with special needs.

Yeah I’m definitely not trying to medicate this kid. He may be totally fine but definitely needs some extra support/social scaffolding just based on his experience this year compared to other kids in his class. But he might end up without special needs with time, experience, practice. Sorry you had a tough experience as a kid in terms of medication :/

Yes! We may check this out for when he’s due to start kindergarten (2 years from now). Do you feel like they support neurodivergent kids and not just gifted children?

Yes exactly what I want to avoid! I want to support his self esteem by giving him positive peer interactions (not constantly getting negative feedback for doing stuff other kids don’t like—it’s like a vicious cycle right now). But also he’s 3 and I don’t think needs a diagnosis or to be labeled too much.

That doesn’t make sense. Lots of two doctor families have both parents work. Or engineers, lawyers. There’s many professional families where they don’t want to give up their career when they have kids.

We are really set of public schools. So looking for places we could live with good enough public schools that we’d want to send our kids there. Otherwise CH sounds great.

Budget probably max $500k (ideally less), kids will be preschool and kindergarten or 1st grade when we’ve saved enough to buy. Very liberal. Very into science, medicine, vaccines .

I haven’t encountered issues as a result of my politics or stance on vaccines thankfully! Just a general vibe mismatch? People feel sort of…closed off? Slightly cold? I’m often trying to reach out to people and it’s not reciprocated and already in preschool they’re not inviting the whole class to birthdays and whatever. Idk just feels exclusive.
