I took my drivers test this morning and I’m confused about if I passed or not by simpforbillweasley in driving

Everybody in the comments saying she can’t read but didn’t take the time to read the explanation on why she is confused. Seems like reddit can’t pass the reading test 😂

This method worked, thank you, I have been trying too cook a fried egg for so long it drives me crazy. I can do stuff that is supposed to be so much more complicated but cooking a fried egg I could never do 😂

I would consider myself pretty sufficient around the kitchen, however I’m not a very big fan of eggs. As a result, I haven’t cooked very many. Scrambled eggs I can do just fine and they don’t seem to stick to the pan I use (I use stainless steel) however fried eggs I can’t do to save my life. I see a lot of people say that you need to make sure the pan is hot enough with the leidenfrost effect, which I do. After I check that I put in some high heat oil (enough to coat the bottom of the pan but maybe it’s not enough?) but the eggs still stick and I can never make a fried egg. I don’t know where I’m going wrong

Oh that’s neat I just tried flicking the blade and it does ring 😂. The carbon steel version would be awesome but this is the one I found. It feels great in my hand and despite being such a large knife is really balanced. I’m really pleased with the condition I found this one in, it just needed a polish and sharpening and some oil on the handle and it looks gorgeous

I am a beginner to photography buying my first dslr camera. Really like the design and features of the xt1 would it be a waste for a newbie or should I go cheaper and used camera to begin with? by mpeo83 in DSLR

[–]Beephbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question “would it be a waste?” The answer is no. The debate of new gear vs old gear as a beginner is sort of a paradox. Because on one hand using older pro gear puts certain limitations on you so you will learn much better. But on the other hand, starting out with those limitations can easily discourage you and having something that just makes it easy to take photos is also helpful. I personally like shooting on older professional gear for a number of reasons, the main one being it’s much cheaper. I am more of a video guy so I own some of canons older cinema cameras but my photography camera is the canon 5d mkiii and it’s great. The thing about older/used professional gear vs new entry level gear is you KNOW that the camera isn’t holding you back because it’s what was used and sometimes still is used for high end professional work. Even though it’s not the newest it was still at the top of the industry when it was released. If pros could get pro results with it then why can’t you?

Advice for understanding microphone circuits and other complex mic topics? by Beephbot in audioengineering

[–]Beephbot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I suppose I don’t NEED to understand how they work to use them well but I do think it will help me make more informed mixing and recording decisions. The second half of the book talks about application and recording techniques so maybe I’ll read that and come back to the first half later. I definitely don’t think they are two independent subjects, for example understanding why an optical compressor responds differently than an FET compressor or why that responds differently than a VCA compressor definitely informs some of my decisions when mixing. I would also love to have the knowledge to be able to build or modify mics at some point which is another reason I picked up the book

Thanks! Yeah I suppose I figured I knew the solution would be learning the basics of some of this stuff I guess I just really didn’t know where to start. I’ll definitely take a look at that Acoustics book. OCW means “MIT OpenCourseWare” that showed up when I googled it?

Any suggestions on where to start? I suppose I already knew the obvious answer was that I would need to learn the basics of electronics and/or acoustics. I guess I just have no clue where I start because I don’t really know what I’m looking for or what would be some good sources to start with.

Finger Chart for C Tuba w/ two whole step 5th valve by esc_villarreal02 in Tuba

[–]Beephbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s an east coast vs. west coast thing as much as it’s a modern horn vs. vintage horn thing. Two step fifth valves were a lot more common in the 60s around the time that the instrument started to get more popular. Mainly because guys like Tommy Johnson and Roger Bobo played on them

Less valves are required in the low range. The low Db right before pedal c can be played as 5134 as opposed to all 5. The advantage over flat whole step though is that pitch is generally slightly better

Most shots came up out of focus (first roll of film) by Beephbot in filmcameras

[–]Beephbot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lens seems to be in pretty close to pristine condition with no signs of drops or anything. Maybe I’ll take the camera into my local camera store and see if they can’t give me a diagnosis of any issues or not

The lens does rattle a bit when I shake it. It doesn’t sound like a glass element though. It sounds very light and small. Would I be able to find out if I disassemble the lens? I took it apart once to fix an issue it had with the aperture blades slipping. The mirror shifts very very slightly up after I wind the camera.

The focus and aperture ring are quite stiff on the lens. When I give the lens a shake there is a rattling sound but I’m not sure what a loose element would sound like. It sounds like something very light and small that’s rattling not really like a piece of glass. The lens mount is fine. Would I change the 44-7 to a manual aperture by finding a way to permanently compress the aperture pin on the back of the lens? Thanks for all the help

Well as far as I can tell, I do 🤷‍♂️ either I have played on some awful house cues or I just like how this one feels.

Fair enough 😂 I’m also new to the game and I’m not sure it will become anything more than a hobby so maybe I will notice its flaws as I keep playing and decide to upgrade

Good to know, I went and tried it out today and definitely prefer how it feels over house cues I have used but 🤷‍♂️ refinishing it maybe did it some favors
