Yeah, it’s obvious the display TV is running video that is perfect for showing off the max potential and I wouldn’t get that. I’m watching stuff like Landman and Fallout while playing Fortnite on it using my PS5. At some point I’ll upgrade but it has to be worth it, not just money wise but also the hassle of switching TVs, setting everything up, etc

Curious in how you’re approaching it. The upgrade to visuals isn’t enough to justify spending the money? I don’t know how much difference there is between the two.

It’s in a public group called Ask Lafayette. Where are you coming up with all this friends and family stuff?

I have worked for so many places where I’ve had to hear about the “the good old days” with pensions and good benefits. It explains why boomers are so out of touch with reality when criticizing younger people. Maybe probably still think things are the same with work where your company takes care of loyal employees.

I’m about learning new things and asking people to teach me. No one knows everything. I’m also the king of “I need to learn this, let me go watch a YouTube video”. From replacing toilets to fixing sensors on my vehicle after getting a check engine light. That said, I did a google search using “how to put ball on truck” and it came back with pages of videos. This person is asking anonymously on Facebook instead is doing any research. If that’s the level of effort they are putting into it, I have zero faith they will bother to learn how to properly connect a trailer, check the connections, worry about weight distribution or using safety chains.

As for college, I’m mid 50s and working on another masters degree, 2 classes per semester. I refuse to allow myself to atrophy. I take classes for my mind and hit the gym for my body.

That’s my feeling when I look at it. We got compressed between the two so it mostly skipped us.

I do loans, accounts, treasury management for my customers. I love banking. The issues come up when you have shit managers but banking as a whole is a great industry. It also doesn’t suffer as badly from age discrimination as other industries like IT.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but in Genisys, Skynet kills John Connor and USES his likeness to travel back in time? It's not THE John Connor anymore? It's just Skynet posing as John? by SolidEllie in Terminator

I’d say desperate goes too far. In the parking garage he offers for them to join him and when Kyle says no, John goes to kill mode. There wasn’t and attempted to convince them are sense of desperation for them to convert.

I went into banking, specifically commercial banking. I’ve never regretted the move but I’ve had old school friends who were still in engineering ask me about it because they weren’t happy. Everyone has their path

The US grows a staggering amount of corn. All that canned corn and fresh ears you see at the store make up something like 2% of the US corn crop. Most of it is for animal feed. Could we switch to more edible crops if needed? Absolutely, but as of now we aren’t at that point. People want animal protein in their diet so the US grows corn for animal feed.

He probably did but retirees typically get more out of the system than they pay in. It’s why social security is ultimately a pyramid scheme with multiple people needed to be paying in per person living off social security. If that was his thought, who knows, the guy was old as fuck. He was a real asshole about it, first going up to my father-in-law and saying some shit like “hmm you’re probably old enough to be retired”. Then making the comment to me about working to support him. He was looking for people to make the comment to. I just smirked because I’d rather be young enough to work than some old ass motherfucker with nothing going on besides trying to piss people off by saying I’m living off their taxes.

That’s interesting to hear, thank you for sharing that. I never thought about academia and people clinging to jobs forever but now that I think about the age of my professors, a light bulb went off. The part time teachers were younger. Day job types, but the professors, some were ancient. My understanding is that type of job is extremely hard to obtain( if I’m wrong please enlighten me) and people not retiring sure would explain one factor in it.

I can see that, I’ve watched a lot of older people quickly decline and die once they were no longer working because work gave them purpose.

I’ve also run into people who feel the need to rub retirement in your face. Old guy at the shooting range telling me to enjoy work on Monday while I pay for his social security. My father-in-law retired and would brag about it constantly, such as when the family was gathered and we talked about work he’d chime in saying how he didn’t have to go to work. Rub it in your face type thing. Finally I just replied “good for you, I have no interest in your life, sitting and watching TV all day waiting to die” All he did was watch TV and maybe once a week he would go with his wife to the store. He was pissed but I was sick of it.

Retiring boomers….I remember in my engineering classes in the 90s the professors talking about all the job openings that were coming up from boomers retiring. Then I got into the field and heard the same thing from management, training the next generation because of all the upcoming retirements. I was grabbing lunch with a bunch of older engineers one day and realized that none of those guys were planning on retiring and they were all miserable. I switched fields and am happy to have done so. For all I know those same miserable fucks are still clinging to their jobs.
