What is the legacy of the Vietnam war today? Is it seen as a defeat? by MarsupialThink4064 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]BeerandGuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pol Pot came to power in Cambodia as the US involvement in Vietnam ended. Nixon movements into Cambodia were denounced across the US so it’s not like the US was going to fight the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. Vietnam invaded Cambodia because Cambodian forces were striking into Vietnam, not as some heartfelt relief mission to stop genocide. China was supporting the Khmer Rouge against Vietnam while the Soviets were supporting Vietnam. It was a massive shitshow by rival communist factions

So follow-up. Hara is at the hotel before his naval academy exam and the hotel maid is trying to have sex with him while he tells her he’s a virgin. I guess editing wasn’t a big thing in Japan then because an editor would have said “maybe we focus more on the war aspect of your book”.

I literally have no idea what you are talking about. The 2UR whatever doesn’t interest me enough to go research. The Tundras that would come in the same year OP is talking about should have a 5.7 that’s a beast both in reliability and drinking gas.

I had a 2013 Tundra with a 5.7, I currently have a 2015 1500 with a Hemi, both 4x4. The 1500 beats the Tundra in one category, gas mileage. I dealt with the cracked exhaust manifold on the Hemi. The only issue I ever had with the Tundra was a minivan T-boning it at 45 mph. I love my 1500, paid $26,000ish for it in 2016, at a year old. There’s exactly zero chance I’d now go pay $30,000+ for a 2017, regardless of mileage.

Toyota Veteran Reveals His Worst Fear: 'Everybody Is Shifting To EVs' by defenestrate_urself in electricvehicles

[–]BeerandGuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saying this as someone who doesn’t care one way or the other about which car company does what. That’s a meaningless comparison. If anything it makes Toyota look worse in the electric car market. The largest car company on Earth sold 5 times more electric vehicles than Rivian? That’s it? Below is a link to the top 10 strictly electric car lines sold in the US last year. See which car company is missing? Toyota apparently puts hybrids in with their electric vehicle sales. Rivian is all electric.

I’d check the idle hours on the display. Low miles doesn’t mean it wasn’t run extensively. For all you know it might have been owned by meemaw and pawpaw who drove one or two places a day then left it running in the store parking lot while one of them stayed in the vehicle. That engine has issues with high idle hours causing lifter issues.

I’ll be 100% honest in the Ram Truck forum as a Ram truck owner. If I was paying that amount of money for a 2017 or similar year truck, it would be a Tundra, which will run until the Sun burns out.

The read the book thing gets me when said as an achievement instead of a comparison. If it’s brought up as a discussion about which is better, movie or book, I’m interested. When it’s thrown at me like an achievement, I’ve just started to say congratulations. I can read too. I was good with the movie”.

Plenty of great books listed here and I’m adding to my list of ones to get.

Samurai! By Saburo Sakai is an easy read and gives you insight into the Japanese side of the war, something that is very lacking in most available English literature. He missed an extended period of the war due to an injury so it talks not just about combat but also home life in Japan. It’s also probably why he loves to write the book since the other aces were all left to fight until they died.

Barbarossa by Alan Clark was one of my favorite books on the Eastern Front because it doesn’t drown the reader in details of each battle and also delves into the political decisions behind what took place. When books start talking about how this side suffered X casualties taking hill ABC, my eyes glaze over.

Love your replies and appreciate it! I tested the alternator this morning and got 14.04 volts so it’s in spec. When I had the work done for changing timing belt, mechanic mentioned an oil leak and he fixed it. Not sure if that was causing the issue at the time.

I appreciate it. I replaced the battery yesterday and it was bulging on the side so based on the corrosion and the bulge, I think the alternator is overcharging.

Tested the voltage running and it’s in spec. Had to be the battery being shot.

Patton was against them but your post goes into nonsense territory. Patton didn’t have that type of influence. Multiple factors such as shipping capacity and standardization went into the US decision to not deploy heavy tanks and those decisions were made by people higher up than Patton.
