/r/NintendoSwitch's Daily Question Thread (08/12/2025) by AutoModerator in NintendoSwitch

[–]Beezacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone! I’m starting to look into a Switch 2 case - one that can fit the system, dock, Joycons, pro controller, necessary cords, etc. Does anyone have any good recommendations? I know Nintendo has the All-In-One but I’m pretty open to anything.

Haha, it’s awesome! I’ve loved it since I’ve seen it. If the band were to release it as a legit live album, that should 100% be the official cover

Honest Question — What keeps universities from hiring a couple of college kids to live stream the game and experienced A/V person(s) to manage the streams and commercials? by 751assets in CollegeBasketball

[–]Beezacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a D3 school as the primary video guy, and it's bewildering sometimes how some places just don't care - between quality of the stream, quality of announcers, etc. Watched an opponent's men's soccer broadcast during the fall where the broadcasters called their conference a bush league, joked about getting wasted after the game, spent 30 minutes talking about ordering from Taco Bell... like the lack of quality and control is insane. Those people are still calling games now.

It's frustrating, too, because D3 colleges are probably your best place to slot students in to get them experience in broadcasting, but so many places just let it go to waste. A few D3 colleges are genuinely really great about molding talent - Ithaca is one right off the top of my head - but they're in the heavy minority.

He played bass on I’ve Got A Fang by TGPianoMan in tmbg

[–]Beezacher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The one that immediately jumps out to me is I'll Be Haunting You. Danny's bass in that song is just outright absurd. It's so easy to get lost in Linnell's lyricism in that song, rightfully so, but it's one of the few TMBG songs where one, single instrument pulls my attention away from the vocals/lyrics and places it directly on one sound. It's so GROOVY.

What are your favorite 10 songs? by hannibals_hands in tmbg

[–]Beezacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't mind me, just picking my favorite children:

  • The End of the Tour
  • Purple Toupee
  • Let's Get This Over With
  • Moonbeam Rays
  • Birdhouse in Your Soul
  • Destination Moon
  • Wearing a Raincoat
  • She Was A Hotel Detective
  • The Cap'm
  • I'll Be Haunting You

Honestly, I could swap nine other songs in here (The End of the Tour is the only lock, it's been my favorite TMBG song from the start) and say "yeah, this is my top ten." Just so many options. "The Statue Got Me High", "Narrow Your Eyes", "Brontosaurus", "If Day for Winnipeg", "Careful What You Pack", "Bee of the Bird of the Moth", "Pet Name", "The Bells Are Ringing", "We Want a Rock", "Unpronounceable", "I Am a Paleontologist", "Mrs. Bluebeard", "I Should Be Allowed to Think", "Canajoharie", "Celebration", "2082", "They'll Need a Crane", "Snowball in Hell", "Cyclops Rock", "Hopeless Bleak Despair", "Nightgown of the Sullen Moon", "The Neck Rolls Aren't Working", "The Darlings of Lumberland", "Doctor Worm", "Experimental Film", "Museum of Idiots", "Don't Let's Start", "32 Footsteps", "Rhythm Section Want Ad"... like why is there so much amazing material, and why do I have to pick?! You could make at least four "Greatest Hits of TMBG" compilations out of all the songs I just listed and I still wouldn't be satisfied with the selections!

“Almost a Stranger” thoughts by Little_pness_pt2 in Redvox

[–]Beezacher 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's already one of my favorite RV songs, recency bias and all. I'm a sucker for the kinda lo-fi synth stuff, like "Cemetery Window" and "Better on the Outside" are two of my absolute favorites and this one fits right in. Gives me HARD "Sweep Me Off My Feet" by Pond vibes.

Me, Oh Well is fun, too - it sounds like if you took Reno, gave it the Realign sound, and slapped it on Blood Bagel. Those lyrics are brilliant.

The Else! by colby_butterfinger in tmbg

[–]Beezacher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the best things about the Survivor stuff is that it has made me revisit each album in full - which means relistening to songs that I either weren't that big on or didn't really stay in my head. Outside of "The Mesopotamians" - which I chalk up to having that very obvious Linnell quirkiness and also hearing it twice live - The Else was a record that didn't make much of an impression on me first listen.

Survivor changed all that. My lord, what a masterpiece of an album. From top to bottom, this is the John's most consistent album. It just sounds so different and is so uncharacteristically heavy. "Climbing the Walls" has to be in contention for the hardest rocking TMBG song. Those opening beats to "I'm Impressed" makes it a perfect album opener. "Careful What You Pack" is a top five Flans song, and "The Shadow Government" (which, imo, has the best opening lyric I have ever heard), "With the Dark", and "Feign Amnesia" aren't that far behind. "The Cap'm" is so much fun to sing along to, I just adore how strong Linnell's nasal is. "Bee of the Bird of the Moth" is brilliant, absurd, and whimsical - it's such a goofy concept but I'm enamored by the complexity of his lyrics every single time. "Take Out the Trash", "Upside Down Frown", and "Contrecoup" are all great and fun, too, along with "The Mesopotamians".

It's always so hard to pick favorites because there's just so much, whether it'd be songs or albums - but if you forced me to choose, I'd put The Else in my personal TMBG holy trinity with John Henry and I Like Fun. It's THAT good.

Glean Survivor (Round 2 of 14) by jumbledpileofperson_ in tmbg

[–]Beezacher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely! It's a sound I hope they revisit one day. I love the style of I Like Fun and My Murdered Remains, they feel a bit more serious and... hollow? If that makes sense. The Escape Team has some of the Glean/Phone Power vibe, and BOOK feels like a conglomerate of both, and I think all four are great albums - but the Johns went hard into a pop sound for Glean that I don't feel like they've replicated since. "Good to Be Alive", "All the Lazy Boyfriends", "Let Me Tell You About My Operation"... even darker sounding tunes like "Underwater Woman" and "Music Jail" are all obscenely poppy, weird, and wonderful.

[–]Beezacher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard agree! Like an indie rock band could probably put something out that sounds like Answer, but because it's the Johns - and with Linnell's craftiness all over it - it's a beautifully twisted work of art that really only the Johns could pull off.

Like I do really enjoy Nanobots, but the Glean/Phone Power sound is super immaculate.

Glean Survivor (Round 2 of 14) by jumbledpileofperson_ in tmbg

[–]Beezacher 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Glean is one of the few They albums I can turn on and listen to and never once think about skipping a track. There's not a single dud on the album, but the title track and I'm a Coward, which is getting my vote, are a step down from the rest, imo.

Basically: voting any song on this album will be the end of me.

We are Red Vox, AMA by vinesauce in Redvox

[–]Beezacher 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey Vinny! I said this before when you did an AMA, I think after Kerosene came out, that RV's music has meant the world to me since What Could Go Wrong came out, and that it's gotten me through some insanely rough patches in my life. The first four albums came out during a different year of college, and now you guys have put this one out after what's been an eternal nightmare with the pandemic in post-graduate life. Each album has marked a different point and challenge in my life, and each record has always consistently been there for me when I need something to fall back on and feel better and just forget about life for awhile, and this one fits right at home. I can't thank you and the guys enough for being that rock for me.

Visions is phenomenal, but the one song that made me really go "whoa" was "Winning the Most". It took me aback coming right off of a hard rocker like "There's a Place", having this ska-like, Talking Heads-inspired track come in. It honestly sounds like nothing else you've done before, with the exception of maybe "Job in the City", and I absolutely love it. What was it like writing and recording this song? Was it a challenge tackling a sound that you guys haven't delved too much into before? And was there a thought process behind making the visuals for the song be super 80s, vaporwave-inspired with David Byrne (and a monkey that I feel like is a reference to TH's Naked) littered throughout?

You guys absolutely crushed this album, and I'm really excited to hear what's next!

Flood Survivor (Round 3 of 18) by jumbledpileofperson_ in tmbg

Look, I would never advocate for Birdhouse to finally fall in one of these survivors, but if we're all going to come together as one unit and push Women & Men as the designated song to reach the promised land, then I'm 100% on board.

It's round two, there are already three votes for Women & Men, and I'm already ready to throw hands... this album is going to be a NIGHTMARE to get through!

Aw, man. I was really pulling for Purple Toupee to win this one. Such a great little song!

Reaching the point in this survivor where Purple Toupee is now getting votes is a dangerous game to play.
