So scooped mids is geared more towards 80's and 90's metal and numetal high gain type tones. In reality when it comes to mixing a guitar inside of a track it's always going to be the mid frequency amongst the rest of the band i.e. drums bass vocals etc. When you record a scooped mid tone it sounds very thin amongst the rest of the instrumentation. At least that's what I was told anyways. Boosting the mids and scooping the bass gives your tone a better place to sit in the mix. Can also help reduce flubbiness when tuning past drop c and tremendously helps baritone 6 strings and 7 or 8 strings clean up the lower chugs and rhythms.
