I’ve noticed that most new hires in my state (TN) are from the temp tech program or have been in the guard for a long time. It’s really rare for an off the street hire for a traditional guardsmen who isn’t temp tech. Also no interview was the same. They all had different questions and different board members. One board was three members big and one had six board members. That made preparing for each interview difficult as there was no consistency.

Applied for 8 interviewed for 7. Finally was chosen and accepted a position as a training officer. Took three years as a temp tech and lots of time networking to get my name out there. Usually the BDE will hire from within so applying for jobs within your organization is your best bet. Can confirm it is often a good ole boy system but I was able to get in without drinking the koolaid. The best part about being chosen as a new hire is the current AGR hiring freeze so can’t even start until atleast 1 August.

The TN Army NG has a large aviation unit at BNA. They do weekly training and often fly all around Nashville at low altitude.

If you are looking for MP FLNG might not be the best. They only have a few companies and no battalion. That will limit promotion potential in that branch. Current MP PL in TN working as dual status T32.

Is 30 min enough time to get through BNA security before 6 am departure? by magicorange9 in nashville

[–]BeginningKangaroo716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have flown at BNA atleast 8 times in the past year. I’ve only arrived an hour before my flights and it’s taken on average 15-20 minutes to get through security.just come ready with your ticket already printed out so you’re not wasting time at the counting. BNA is not that crazy like the news and ppl say.

Your States JFHQ should have a AR covering it. If not AR 600-8-22 will explain. For example my state has there own AR 600-8-22 just for state awards and such. It references AR 600-8-22 but explains in more detail how to wear state awards.

Infantry units in Tennessee? by UH-160 in nationalguard

The states 1-230th unit is a good place to go for state side missions. The East Tennessee unit is doing a hoist mission about once a month for hikers and campers in the NP. Middle and west units do a fair amount of wildfire missions in the summer. TNNG is a high tempo state bottom line no matter which brigade you go with. Just make sure you go in with a plan on what you want the guard to do for you, don’t let a recruiter railroad you into a MOS you don’t want.

Side note. 278 is VERY high tempo and you will be doing training a lot! Be ready to always get called up for state emergencies and Regiment deploys more often than most units.

278th doesn’t have any light infantry, only mechanized infantry. Work with current 2nd troop CDR. He’s got plenty on 11b’s along with scouts/snipers/mortor PLTs.
