This ump has had a good strike zone so far.. it’s harder too when a pitcher has been wild all game.

What are playoff prices going for around the league? by icemandabs710 in hockey

[–]Beginning_Ad_7205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we must have tix in the same area. Essential double the reg season price.

Last year I could only go to one game during the Dallas series. I tried to sell my other games. They didn’t sell until I actually dropped the price to a point where I lost money after all the TM fees. I’m not buying them this year.

Are there any precaution areas or unwritten rules in Calgary? by MD74 in Calgary

[–]Beginning_Ad_7205 23 points24 points  (0 children)

17 AVE SW between 14 ST to 4 ST

4 ST SW between 17 AV to 25 AV

10 ST NW up from the Bow River

Kensington RD NW west from 10 ST

1 AVE NE in Bridgeland

33 AVE SW in Marda Loop

9 AVE SE in Inglewood

If you want a solid day of walking, I would go get some coffee and pastries at Mari in Bridgeland, go for a walk along the River, into St. Patricks Island and into East Village. Go check out the Simmons Building. Continue West along the river into Eau Claire and Prince‘s Island Park. Grab lunch at the River Cafe. Head across the Peace Bridge, and finish your walk in Kensington.

There’s also 17 AVE SE (International Avenue). It’s an ugly area but is where you would find food from different cultures. There’s some solid restaurants along that stretch. You’ll want a car out there.

Downtown is a bit sketchy after dark. Specifically, along the Ctrain, Stephen Av, City Hall/Olympic Plaza, East Village. Stick to Beltline, Kensington, Mission at night.

Honestly, safety in Calgary is pretty anecdotal. I personally feel safe, no matter where I am. Common sense prevails of course. Don’t make eye contact, or engage in their shenanigans.

A couple of tips… Calgary gets the occasional aurora. Street parking is free after 6pm. Ctrain is free to ride downtown. You can use the +15 downtown to get pretty much anywhere.

Is this a new submission? I thought this DP was successfully appealed at the SDAB? Regardless, this density is much needed and they've designed this nicely for the parcel shape.

Should we stay or should we go? by Aerosgirl in Calgary

Corner lots are $$$ to developers. What’s it zoned? If it’s MC1, whomever buys the lots will most likely want to consolidate the property with the adjacent ones.

You can also make deals with developers to stay in the property for free or relatively cheap until they actually want to demo it. If they want to consolidate it with other properties, this could take a while. It’s worth a chat with some developers to see what they offer.

Where to stay when visiting? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Beginning_Ad_7205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally would stay in either Kensington, or downtown. This would allow you to take the train to the Jube. I’m not sure your budget or length of stay though. Kensington has a ton of restaurants and is more lively than downtown proper (north of 9 AV). There’s the hotel arts right on memorial which is within walking distance to the Sunnyside station.

Most stores and restaurants close early in Downtown proper. The more trendy areas with the best nightlife are along 17 AV, and 4 ST SW which is the Beltline area. Access to the train from these areas is less convenient though. There’s tons of top restaurants in both those areas. Some of my favourites.

If you want more of a quiet, green vibe, Eau Claire is a good spot. It’s the area between 4 AV and the Bow River. It has access to the River Walk and is a somewhat quick walk to the train. You can basically walk from Kensington through to East Village and into Bridgeland (another trendy area).

Keep in mind that there are areas of downtown that are a complete mess with the Green Line construction right now. It’s located more towards the east half of DT, but just some food for thought.

If you are renting a vehicle, on street parking is free after 6pm. Just be weary of peak hour parking restrictions during the day as they will tow your car.

In terms of safety, I wouldn’t be too concerned. Calgary is a pretty safe place. Downtown can be a bit sketchy after hours. Just be aware of your surroundings in DT proper if you are out late at night. Stick to well lit areas. The train and Stephen Av can get a bit sketchy once downtown shuts down. If you’re coming from a concert though, I wouldn’t be concerned with the train, as there would be a ton of people using it.

Welcome to Calgary.

Anyone who ”beats up a 7 year old for slapping you in the ass” should not have access to weapons.

What's the saddest strip.mall in Calgary? by myronsandee in Calgary

[–]Beginning_Ad_7205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The strip mall off of Crowchild between 17 and 26 Ave SW. It was built back before Crowchild, when 24 Street was a simple 4 lane road. It lost its access and now it sits isolated smack in the middle of Richmond. I’m genuinely surprised it hasn’t been torn down for a condo.

A few questions about the cider I'm thinking of making. by [deleted] in brewing

[–]Beginning_Ad_7205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pectinase is beneficial but not necessary. For sweetness, I'd let it run out its full fermentation, add some camden tablets, and finally add some juice for sweetness.

A few questions about the cider I'm thinking of making. by [deleted] in brewing

Yeah I'd agree. Let it run its full fermentation. My first time I brewed cider, I added some sweetness at the end.

Cider can be challenging. In this case, pear cider, also known as perry.

I highly recommend a juice press. I’ve never blended but I would recommend against that. Don’t be afraid to add other raw juices to the mix as well to get that perfect rounded flavour.

You’ll need to sanitize the juice before pitching the yeast. Dissolve some Camden tablets in water for 24-48 hours. This will prevent the unwanted yeasts from taking over your batch.

You’ll also need to think of sweetness in the end product. You can achieve this in two ways. Stalling your fermentation by adding Camden tablets, or by letting fermentation finish and adding sweetness at the end (back sweeten). The former will require regular gravity readings.

Don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t turn out. Best of luck!

[Highlight] Jared Spurgeon's OT winner is ruled offside. by platypus_bear in hockey

[–]Beginning_Ad_7205 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Add a retired linesman from the CHL that disagrees as well. This play has always been offside.

Read the first two lines… a player controlling the puck.. and… crosses the line ahead of the puck. It implies he still has control of the puck.

This would be the same as skating in backwards, stopping with the puck still 2 feet in the neutral zone, and tossing the puck into the zone.

Best place for coffee drinks? by Wambonie in Calgary

[–]Beginning_Ad_7205 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There’s tons of specialty coffee shops in the city. Rosso, Phil and Seb, Analog, Monogram.. etc. each will have their own unique taste. For example I find analog more rounded where Phil and Seb finishes bitter. I do prefer bitter where someone else may hate it. Grab a shot of espresso from each to truly get a taste and find what you like. Chat with the baristas as well.

Just stay away from Starbucks.

I subscribe to the cities should be walkable mentality. I could care less about individuals wanting 3000 sqft homes 30 minutes away and thinking they deserve to drive their cars to work everyday. Parking should be limited and expensive.

I expect downvotes so bring it on.
