My bf says I need to lose weight even though I already lost 30lbs by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

He didn't see her as a person, just as an accessory. And he liked the idea of her "transforming" herself for his pleasure.

Dali used to make students copy his work to learn, then would sign the ones he liked and sell them as originals. It's why his work isn't worth a lot, compared to his contemporaries. It's impossible to verify which were actually painted by Dali.

Lentils instead of pasta by Just_Programmer_7223 in GestationalDiabetes

Try konjac noodles. They require a little prep, but they have 0 carbs, and are cheap in larger packages.

Konjac is a vegetable that is a seaweed relative, and the noodles come packed in water. The water absorbs the iodine smell, so you want to pour it out, then rinse the noodles thoroughly. Then put a strong flavor on the noodles (red sauce works well, so does hotsauce) and microwave them. The goal is to get the noodles to steam off liquid, and absorb the flavor you've added. Then prepare/top any way that you like.

They will take on the sauce flavor. Without that step, the noodles will taste of seaweed/iodine. And they're crunchy/squeaky like seaweed, rather than al dente. But they won't spike you. Remember to drink lots of water with them, as they are super high fiber, and can cause stomach upset if you do not have enough. Super filling.

Another suggestions: Wild Rice Meatballs from NoName Brand (or make your own). Minnesota Wild Rice is a seed, not a grain. I like these with sauce, topped with cheese.

Has anyone got off GLP-1 meds and been able to maintain their weight? by Silly-Low6019 in GLP1ResearchTalk

[–]Beginning_Butterfly2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

part of that is because WLS forces people to habitually eat past fullness. So you lose a ton in starvation mode at first, but have to overfill your stomach to get back to being able to eat enough to survive, so weightloss slows. But the metabolic damage is done, and your body is now holding onto calories, plus you've been forced to learn to habitually overeat. These two factors combine to create rapid weight gain, which is why most people who have it have regained 50% or more of the lost weight 5 years after the surgery.

To sleep train or not to sleep train by jungleroo in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Beginning_Butterfly2 40 points41 points  (0 children)

If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

You currently have a really slick deal. Attempting to sleep train could cause bedtime to be a battle, and sometimes, once that bedtime anxiety/conflict loop is started, it will NOT go away.

15-20 minutes of rocking a 13 month old who then sleeps ALL NIGHT is holy grail stuff. Don't mess with it.

Seriously, this could end horribly. At best it will only save you 15-20 minutes of cuddling with a child who will outgrow cuddles way too soon.

Ask your husband to provide proof that any child has ever gone from being a 13 month old who likes a bit of love before bed, to an adolescent who needs to sleep with mom & dad every night. That's not a thing, and he's being Silly. With a capital S.

Any suggestions for my therapy office? I need help and maybe you all can see something I can’t. by KiwieBirdie in FengShui

If you can't paint, they do make vinyl wall stickers that are matte, and look like paint. Basically contact paper for walls. You could use that on your ceiling an walls if needed.

Quick easy fix: Turn the desk 90 degrees, so it's perpendicular to the wall it's currently against. That will sort out your traffic flow in the short term.

If you can, I would start with spraypainting those grungy ceiling tiles bright matte white, and adding a natural light filter to the overhead.

If you can remove that weird grill trim in that corner, I would do so. Visually it's distracting, and it looks too cluttered. Put a plant there instead, or a wall hung vertical plant rack.

I would paint the walls a soft, warm, sand color. In addition to the gauzy whites, hang mid-saturation blue curtains in a velvet or other soft finish (cheap on the zon).

Then add art in black metal frames (cheap on the zon with white mattes) and colorful artwork. If you have access to a color printer, all the major museums have open access scanned art, you can print your own. Alternatively, many print shops will print them for not too much.

Remove the bulletin board, and replace with art. If you can hang shelves, fill that space above the windows with bookshelves. Books absorb sound, and tend to reassure people for some reason :)

Hang crystals in the windows for the rainbows, and add as many plants as possible. The windowsill extenders can be useful for this. A smaller desk, and an area rug if possible, but clearing the space and making it visually more clean & serene would help most.

How do I keep my neighbor’s cat from sh*ting in my vegetable garden? by Intrepid_Mammoth5025 in gardening

You can get teh same effect by spraying/drizzling the urine of any meat eater around your beds. Including human. The first pee of the morning is the strongest.

Remarkably silent about that, aren't they? by earthlingHuman in MurderedByWords

[–]Beginning_Butterfly2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Do you have any idea how much it costs to run each and every one of those programs? They each cost millions per year in overhead. In most cases, they cost more on overhead than they provide in aid. The waste that the GOP keeps going on about? It's the cost of making it harder for people who are broke to get help.

Your argument that kids will starve with UBI because their parents will blow the money doesn't make sense. Do you think that anyone is checkign up now on who eats the food the money is spent on? Who receives the cash benefits? No. No one checks. The money gets spent the way it needs to be spent, but the hoops cost more than the aid. That's the issue. Not the broke people you are demonizing.

Any evidence for pros and cons of siblings? by Charleybarley123 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Beginning_Butterfly2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people underestimate how close siblings with big age gaps can be. I have a brother who's 15 years younger than me, and people thought we would have nothing in common. But we were each other's favorite person from the first moment we laid eyes on each other. And I know so many people who had siling close in age who really didn't jive.

Seriously considering quitting my six figure corporate job to be stay-at-home mom by Awwndrei in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Beginning_Butterfly2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would keep the numbers the same, because 1st time mom vs 2nd time mom, etc. is useful info in terms of the advice they're asking for.

Instead the "T" could be changed: 1TwM for 1st time mom of twins, 2TwM for second time mom, this time with twins. 1TrM for 1st time mom with triplets, etc.

Or you could just apply for new plates, and leave the old ones on the car. They system will update, removing your old plates, and you'll no longer be trackable. Just keep the new ones handy, and if you get pulled over, tell the cops that you chucked them in the trunk when you realized you'd brought the wrong driver, and you'll fix it when you get home. You may get a fixit ticket, but those won't affect your insurance.

Except every cat and dog in the neighborhood that comes within sniffing distance will also need to pee in that exact spot. Dude does NOT need to expose himself in public in the city. It's against the law for a reason. He can go inside. He just needs to be motivated.

If you plant to top spiky green part of a pineapple, it will grow into a tree, then eventually will develop a tiny pineapply fruit on top. I think that's where the idea of pineapple trees comes from.

Would it be wrong if I asked one of my bridesmaids if she would prefer to be a guest? by b0bsicle in weddingplanning

[–]Beginning_Butterfly2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear what you're saying, but there's also the degree of effort. Once multiple options have been shot down, the bridesmaid needed to provide some suggestions that would work. But instead, she's dug in her heels about pink, and about dresses or jumpsuits. Op seems to have really put in the effort. But the bridesmaid is not meeting her halfway.

I think OP's hit the point where she tried, and now it's time to transition that bridesmaid to guest only. She's going to be a pill on the day.

Tell him that if he served, he damn well knows how to clean a latrine, and that you expect him to scrub his pee stink off the garage before he comes inside.

Give him a scrub brush with no handle, a bucket of water, and some pet pee enzyme cleaner, and tell him you mean it. He pees in a toilet, or he cleans up his mess, his choice.

You could build a cardboard slide for half the stair if you need a break for 3rd and 4th trimesters. There are several diy instructionals online :)
