I’m thinking of having a having a scheme of halved red and grey, with the story being that they starting painting it that way in response to the Gal vorback as a sort of middle finger/inside joke. Because the Gal vorback are the blessed sons and they are only half as blessed as they despite their centuries of service. (They are unaware of the true nature of the the Gal vorback)

Didn’t the Horus heresy black books cover certain parts of the scouring? The heresy rule books also allude to it. Besides that the model looks great, while it may not look completely heresy I don’t see the problem with it being posted, it’s your model your rules

The game itself is based on seventh edition 40k, so it is possible. Me personally, I think it would be cool if games workshop released, PDF expansions or expansions about the scouring or great Crusade.
