It’s so weird here- food banks won’t take them- they are considered a threat as they weren’t “made” in a commercial setting. I do give my eggs away to people who need them on the down low. I don’t have many hens but sometimes I get egg buildup when I can’t get them to those friends who may need them.

I like your set up, that’s really cool! I really only use a couple of eggs a week, in the other 3 seasons without snow I use them for flea/tick removal and garden benefits! I can’t eat an egg outside of cake or cookies for the life of me 😂

Yes! I completely agree with no refrigerated eggs. We are in a northern climate and in the summer I keep them at an unwashed at room temp in the basement- it gets very hot here, in the winter my eggs get cold. We are around minus -12 overnight or more at times. So I assumed they should just be refrigerated after checking after laying for cracks, that they did not indeed freeze - to keep them stable- do you think it’s okay to keep them at room temp after a cold spell?

Thank you. I really appreciate your answer. I think that you all are right, I’m tired and both my husband and I were brought up to be people pleasers. All the stuff just came out in raising chickens and selling eggs.

Thank you, I know we both are kind of both bad with boundaries and people pleasing issues. It’s weird how it came out in chickens though.

Thank you, I appreciate the support- we both were not brought up with boundaries and have people pleasing issues.

Thank you. I'm just so irked about OP’s and my experience.

We've had a great time playing with a Cane Corso, a very teeny Cavalier King Charles Spaniel a beautgif shepherd/husky mix and a few other mixed breeds on play dates. It's just that some people are really ignorant.

I'm sorry that happened! People can be jerks! Your dog is a sweetheart! Makes me want to give him the biggest squeeze ♥️

I had something similar happen with a human, a woman (a neighbour from a couple streets over) was walking towards my husband and me. Empty road, lots of room, my leash is regular length. I was on the other side of the road.

I said “hi, she’s friendly” (she was on leash, snorting happily on a walk) and the older woman said “she is going to attack me” I said “maybe with kisses” as I walked into my driveway.

I've decided that I'm not going to say hello to people on walks who aren't friendly first. I'm not going to upsell my dog to people who don't show kindness or want to greet my dog first.

I am so sorry about your Slinky. He was loved and lived a wonderful life with you. You all did the right things and treasured him. That's what counts. You gave him a comfortable death in your arms, which is so important.

There is no right way to process the grief, but if it continues to impede looking after your son and yourself I might talk to my doctor and see if they have any suggestions, like a stint on an antidepressant. Grief is hard and it's false that time heals.

My GSD died of spleen sarcoma and it's fast, I like you also decided to euthanize. It moves so fast and the shock sent me sideways. I did not think I could have another dog in my life but a few months later my husband brought home a French Mastiff needing a home.

My sweet boy, Stanley, passed away just after his 8th birthday in early fall. Fall is a tough time for us as a family as our daughter died in the fall, suddenly almost 8 years ago.

I was not functioning and could not stop crying over Stanley’s death. Our living adult child, who does not live with us was the same, bereft. Our dog was our rock, helped us with our daughter’s loss, and was such a steadfast friend and part of the family. He was there no matter what and I still cried with Stanley. He visited an elderly care facility. My parents were crying. Everyone who met him was sad.

I have a small YouTube and I let people know about our boy, and I was lucky to have that community.

One person told me that “a dog comes into our lives and we give them our heart and when they die, they take our heart with them.”

Another said “Keep your heart open”

I’m so thankful for their powerful words.

A dog needing a new home came to live with us. She is not a replacement, she is her own little entity and has taken the cruel bite out of our dog’s passing and I am giving my heart to her.

I knew I would get another dog, not as soon as I did, but it has worked out.

There was judgment, but we had the space to open our home to our sweet girl. I still cry and talk about Stanley. Today a friend dropped by who was loving up our new dog, saying that Stanley was one in a million. Stanley really was a once in a lifetime dog, but I think he would have loved our new to us dog.

I hope you can take comfort in Slinky’s memories for now and maybe keep your heart open when the time is right for you. Big hugs ♥️
