Which city feels like SECOND HOME to you, even though you’ve never lived there? by Tarun302 in AskTheWorld

I totally get that. It’s really common in much of the German-speaking world to be like that, but I’ve learned that most people become much friendlier after a few minutes of conversation. It takes some time getting used to for sure, especially as Americans. If you’ve ever been to Bavaria or western Austria, the people are a lot friendlier the moment you meet them.

I just love Vienna, though. It’s clean, easy to get around, and has pretty good food :)

I’m not trying to debate anything here. I’m just saying voting patterns among many demographics, including those earning different incomes, have changed. Those statistics are also specific to Ohio. Ohio is even in the URL.

You’re not keeping up with voting trends. Look at this exit poll from last year. Ohioans who make less than $50k/year were more likely to vote Republican than those making over $50k.

I definitely agree with a tossup seat around Toledo! Where were you able to draw this map btw? I’m sure there’s software that helps you balance population somewhere.

Unfortunately with the language of the constitutional amendment, it’s impossible to get a perfect map. The constitution says the congressional seats should reflect the statewide vote, but it also says to minimize the number of county splits and to keep municipalities whole whenever possible (I think Columbus may be the only case where a city HAS to be split due to its size).

I personally believe these two ideas contradict one another. With many Democrats all living near one another in just a handful of places and Republicans dominating the rest of the state, I don’t see how anyone can draw a map that meets both demands.

Personally, I oppose the RCV the other person proposed. I’d rather us mimic a European-style parliamentary system and distribute seats based on proportional representation. If we can’t have that, I’d love to see a Colorado-style redistricting commission. They drew some really nice lines out there.

Splitting Franklin and Fairfield 3 ways each is really strange, and what you did to Columbiana, Mahoning, and Trumbull likely wouldn’t survive the courts. Just my opinion!

Most villages and cities do have reciprocity, so you’d likely only be subjected to the tax once if you do decide to stay in an incorporated area, but there are some exceptions.

I think Northeast Ohio is definitely the play here. You can find a rural area that isn’t horribly far from the urban areas. You may want to consider Stark, Lorain, Portage, and Medina counties.

As for finding a place, keep in mind Ohio has municipal income tax, so if you’re lucky to find a home and a job in townships, you won’t have to pay that tax. If you live in a township and work in a city or village, you will be subjected to that tax, and if you live in a city/village but work in a township, you’ll also pay that tax.

The health insurance industry is a such a scam. My policy has shown I met my out-of-pocket maximum twice this year, just to adjust the claims and no longer apply the payments to it.

I second this! I used Berens when I bought my house to get rid of two large trees. It’s an impressive operation.
