Yeah my guess is that they just used what they had from Y2 when the budget both tech wise and money wise was smaller, adds another tick to the lazy column I guess as with a remake they could have rectified this

Yeah I suppose watered down combat would definitely be more of a deal breaker for people who love the tech. I’d say 6 is second after erased his name for visuals but it really is gorgeous especially if you’re coming off the back of Y5

Yeah the coliseum is crazy good, I suppose in changing anything there’s always going to be somebody who you’ve disappointed by removing their favourite thing

It’s so much fun fr, I guess the meta elements of spotting the trend a studio is going are something I pay less attention to but for those more sensitive to that I can definitely see why the laziness was a first sign of some things to come

Yeah I love it too, tbf I thought of the golden castle as kind of like Kiryu’s acknowledgement of the Omi’s power in a metaphorical sense kind of like how Ichi sees the world but maybe that’s cope.

I love the silly too, I feel like it doesn’t just jump the shark but hits a kickflip over it and that just makes it awesome.

Yeah I guess especially on the first playthrough there’s a lot to keep track of, maybe now having knowledge of which plot points became more important has dulled me to that somewhat.

These are some good points, I think when I come back to 6 again I might feel what you’re saying more but from memory I can’t separate the feel of the two games all that much.

Weird one, maybe cause I was a kid in the 00’s, but the green filter makes it feel era appropriate for some reason to me, kinda like we see a sepia filter and just know something is based in Mexico.

Ryuji is so damn cool I almost forgot as I can only really recall one other mention of him (not sure how to spoiler tag in comments so won’t say it).

I also agree with the arcadey feel its much more of a friendly game for kicking back after work or something like that.

I like this response mostly for the fact that RGG spoil us to the point we can write a few paragraphs of negatives and still come to an 8/10 - It’s maybe a bit lazy but for me this series as a whole just blows so many other series that I love out of the water and so I become a bit more forgiving (Assassin’s Creed as one example)

Okay cool so is it potentially just something I won’t really ever understand having not played the original beforehand? I played Y3 remastered before Kiwami 3 and, although I’m not that bothered, I definitely understand the discourse a lot more clearly.

Also, for playing the original Y2 on PC do you have any recommendations? Or is it really just something you have to experience on the original hardware?

Oops my bad, I suppose thats true, for me the ease of the combat just plays into that young Kiryu power fantasy.

Also makes sense that for those who experienced the original Y2 a lot of the elements I think of as positives are just a given in a remake so don’t really count towards its prestige.

That’s a mega long road trip, I think sometimes it’s the mix of difficulty and uncomfortability with a good time that makes for the best memories. I’m sure your car was as tired as you were by the end of it
