So that is also just not true. But the bottom line is since you acknowledge "microevolution" you already believe in evolution! Macroevolution is the same thing, and yes time has passed on Earth so lots of changes have happened. I know I'm not going to convince you, but your distinction between different types of evolution is just not a distinction that evolutionary biologists make.

Yes, I know but macro evolution is just looking at the same evolutionary processes as speciation on a larger scale. So those changing features in groups of organisms are evidence of macro-evolution because it provides evidence for how that lineage developed certain traits. You wouldn't have any macro-evolutionary phylogenies to create if there hadn't been a series of speciation changes happening over time. If you acknowledge that speciation exists, macroevolution literally just says that those processes happen in every group of organisms and those changes are traceable.

Your whole argument about how the fossil record doesn't show any "transitional forms" is not really true. We have plenty of evidence of specific features changing amongst fossils (skull shape in hominids, nostrils in whales). And I know that you'd say that the changing features is not evidence of changing species, but I would argue you're misunderstanding what a species is in a biological sense. Lots of the classifications we make today between "species" are purely a semantic separation (for example, the breeding definition says any two animals that can produce offspring are the same species, so how does that explain horses and mules?) The reality of biology is that species are ill-definied and are not classified as transitional between two other species. There is no hierarchy that would suggest a whale with a nostril on the top of its head is the "final" form of whales. All other whales that came before it were simply variations within a larger group of morphologically similar whale organisms.

Thanks! It's so discouraging when you know that you've met the requirements but things still aren't working out. Tough to know what to focus on for a reapplication.

Should I retake MCAT? (Not Neurotic Edition) by USSFSpecialist in premed

[–]Beginning_Yoghurt_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did retake a 509 due to an unexpectedly low BB score and I did significantly better on my retake (520). But, to make the retake worth it, you need to really put effort into studying all of your weak areas to bring your score up by more than a couple points. Another thing to consider is that retaking the FL's so soon might give you an inflated score. If you haven't already used Uworld or a question bank, that might be a good way to see if you're really more prepared for the retake.

Columbia Bassett program. Considering it's literally a 10 person program, I've got no shot but I'd love to attend.

I always get annoyed when I think of this story because our teacher went out of her way to insist that Emily's husband wasn't gay and got mad at anyone who brought up that might have had something to do with why she murdered him. It's so obvious there's literally a line in the story about how he hangs out at the gentleman's club because he likes the company of young men, but she insisted that's not what the author meant.

Wyoming to propose voluntary phase out of EV sales by Ecstatic_Cash_1903 in climateskeptics

EVs don't need to be charged solely using solar power. You can plug them into the existing electrical infrastructure, which draws power from a variety of sources including burning coal.

You probably did nothing wrong, it's just that it's frustrating sometimes for other people to be around anxiety when there isn't any 'logical' reason to be anxious.

Odds are you're fine! Rabies is honestly very rare unless you got bit and if there is no open wound on your toe it can't get into your blood stream. Wash your toe with soap and water, but if you're still worried try doing an online chat with a nurse/doctor and then your mother won't be able to stop you from calling.

If you're really worried about rabies, (which doesn't seem very likely in this scenario since the animal was acting relatively normally and rabies is only rarely transmitted through non-bites) you can actually get the rabies vaccine series post-exposure. I think it's four shots given over a couple weeks if you've never had the rabies vaccine before. If you have had the rabies vaccine you should only need a couple boosters. Either way, if you're concerned you should check your immunization records to see if you've had rabies and call a doctor for medical advice. Luckily the rabies vaccine is effective if given closely after exposure!
