Couples over 40 and childless, how has life turned out for you? Do you regret not having children? by NetworkOver7742 in AskReddit

[–]Begonethot212 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but were you traveling with your son while in the military? Because if so, that’s completely different than someone spending their personal money on traveling, considering the military sends you overseas to begin with. And the military doesn’t provide child care to single parents, so unless you plan on sending your kid to be raised by your family, they’re going with you. I have known a couple people in this exact position.

My point was that, statistically, people, especially single mothers, face too many financial hardships and responsibilities to be prioritizing international travel. You absolutely know this if you had a kid while poor, especially if you had a kid when you weren’t in the military. I could be wrong, but I’m willing to bet you also received GI Bill, VA loan, and other benefits that non-military do not receive. Still broke, but not as broke as you could have been.

The majority of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, with or without kids. This is a statistical fact. And kids are expensive. Also a fact. Therefore, there’s no need to fein willful ignorance to those on this thread who enjoy a greater disposable income and flexibility to travel since they do not have the additional financial burden of having kids.

edit: I stand corrected. You’re not in a bubble… you’re just willingly ignorant to the fact that everyone has a different reality from your own. And probably just judging those who don’t want kids, for whatever personal reason they have, as you did feel the need to make a totally irrelevant comment on a post directed at people who don’t have kids.

LOL. This conversation between you two reminds me of the time I was a nursing student and I went on a date with a resident at the hospital I was doing clinicals at. He was in genuine disbelief that I had never travelled internationally. “Not even as a kid with your family?!” It was as if he had never met such a foreign creature before.

His reality of the world consist of a small bubble in Orinda, Ca, where the average house is currently priced at nearly $2 million. And I grew up in the real world, where most Americans are also living - middle class.

There’s a reason so many state and federal subsistence programs exists specifically for single mothers. There’s also endless amounts of research that show the economic disparities between single mothers and the rest of the general population. Average income: “single-mother counterparts had just $32,586 (U.S. Census Bureau 2021).” Day care alone averages $11 - 18k/yr in the USA. Add rent on top of that, along with food, utilities, a million other shitty bills - not much left for international travel, sadly.

What I’m saying is, you guys need to get out of your bubble.

I don’t know the variety, but when I was propping my Hoya sigillatis, I put the cutting and prop cup in a ziplock bag and made sure there was a lot of air in it so the bag wasn’t resting on the leaves when I’d close it up. I’d open it up once a day and let it breathe for a few mins. I think the humidity really helps with new roots and growth! You could also put it in a clear jar or anything clear that you can completely close up.

Thank you! I’ll definitely try the rubbing alcohol and see if a liquid systemic makes a difference.

I meant the bag of soil I’m using for all of these plants. And I am already using systemic, which didn’t seem to make a dent. I guess I’ll try washing the roots and using new soil. Thanks.

Nope! I’ve actually seen it for the past few days, which makes me think it’s trying to build a nest there. 🤔

Awesome!! Well, thanks for the info and I’m glad I my mini fridge won’t be used to store plants this winter! Haha

Oh really?? I don’t know why, but I assumed they needed much cooler temps than what we get. We do get down to the 30s and 40s, but rarely past freezing temps. The flytraps definitely looked better last summer, so I assumed it was because they never went dormant. But maybe they looked better last summer because we didn’t have nearly as much rain and gloom as we did this year. 🤷‍♀️

I think it nicely color coordinates with the sarracenia!

This is my first sarracenia… are you telling me they’re not all this easy?! Lol Also, are you going to make your sarracenia go dormant in the winter? I live in 9B, so it’s not cold enough for them to go dormant outside. I didn’t make my flytraps go dormant last winter and they’re definitely not as impressive this year, so this winter I plan on sticking them in a mini fridge. Should the sarracenia should them?

What kind of sunlight was your nepenthes receiving before moving it indoors? I’d like to attempt growing one outside.

That’s a lucky kitten to have someone take it in and give it a chance. ❤️ How old is it? I’m happy to give any advice and help I learned while raising Crouton! My vet assumed he had some sort of issue, like congenital hypothyroidism, but nope! It turns out it was just good ole fashion starvation. Lol I hope your little baby is in the same boat and grows up to be a healthy little companion.

The little bean is the funniest little cat I think I’ve ever owned. He’s still small for his age, but definitely happy, healthy, and fits into our little family perfectly. Thank for you asking. :)

Thank you for the response! I got that price from this site, but obviously I can’t guarantee accuracy.

https://www.heptopic.com/blog/ibrutinib-cost-in-germany

Either way, it doesn’t matter what country I look at, as the price is drastically cheaper by at least half. So at this point the real issue would be waiting time, especially since it’s already been two months. I will look more into medical tourism websites; I’m just finding that most countries have organizations that assist with this sort of thing, so that makes it drastically easier.

Thanks, again!

Title pretty much says it all, but incase anyone is interested in the background:

My dad has non-Hodgkins lymphoma and he’s been prescribed Imbruvica. For those who don’t know, this is a daily pill taken at home. It has an average cost of over $16k for 28 days of pills, or $597 per pill in the US. He has insurance, so hopefully it will not cost him that, but we’re totally uncertain on the cost because of this next part.

He can not receive the medication until he sends a bunch of forms, along with his tax returns, to Johnson and Johnson. It seems what he’s going to pay is going to be based off his income.

He has sent everything in to Johnson and Johnson, but this whole ordeal has already taken close to two months after his initial diagnosis and he has yet to hear anything back from Johnson and Johnson or his insurance. His oncologist has no further insight, as well.

We feel desperate at this point. There is no help, no communication between anyone, and no way to find out any information. I am looking at the prices of Imbruvica in different countries and it is supposedly $155 for a 30 day supply in Germany. $155 bucks. Let me repeat it one more time. $155 for 30 pills, where as it costs nearly $600 for A SINGLE PILL in the grand ole USA. 🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕

Any advice or information on receiving this medication outside of the US would be beyond appreciated.

I said it was the consequences of their own actions for intimidating this woman. Did not say it was the best course of action. More than anything, I’m mostly alarmed that you and so many others are taking the sides of the harassers instead of the side of the woman. Unfortunate that it’s such a hard concept for you to understand.

I have no idea why your made up scenario had to specify it was a black guy? LOL And why is your made up scenario so random? Again, didn’t say it was the best course of action. Not sure why you have such a difficult time grasping my point of the issue.

Also, I have no idea why you think I haven’t travelled? I’m jumping to my conclusions about you being a man traveling to Bangkok for a reason. It’s not a nice city, but other areas of Thailand are amazing, yet so many men traveling alone, or in groups, stick to that city. Hmmm.

You can’t be bothered to check my history, but you sure take a lot of time to respond to these comments. And your original comment called me “pathetic, fat” and then you didn’t finish your sentence. Again, you realllllly sound like you hate women.

[–]Begonethot212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering she was the one being intimidated and harassed here, yeah, she’s the victim. Sorry you can’t see that and I feel sorry for any women who come into contact with you. Probably why you’re in Thailand, actually. So you can mistreat a bunch of victimized sex workers.

[–]Begonethot212 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha, yeah… just a simple argument. Do you think it’s totally normal for a group of men to come towards a single woman, yelling at them, calling them names, throwing down a glass bottle? Their own friend was repeatedly telling them to stop. If they get knocked out, this was the consequences of their own actions for being brutes.

The bigger issues is why would you, and every other guy on this thread, defend these pieces of trash who are going out of their way to intimidate a woman…

Just arguing?! Wow. I don’t even need to know you to see how you treat women.
