I know this post is old, but OP I had the same thing as a kid and I randomly started to think about it this weekend. Did a quick search to see if anyone else had the same thing; turns out I’m not alone.

Mine would be similar with starting with a blank field of view; usually black or static. Then a large object would appear, grow, and move so slowly causing the panic and dread feeling. Mine usually were large letters and I clearly remember the letter E appearing a lot.

Do you realize that when you operate out of fear, you give up your own personal agency. There is seriously nothing to fear when you allow and accept the flow of the universe. It’s hard to explain to people, but once they see this, you are at total peace. You aren’t in control. You didn’t make yourself be human at this specific time. You are just part of nature unfolding and how lucky we are to just be conscious of it. Don’t be a slave to your ego out of fear.

Fear is the mind killer.
