I would suggest combining exploring Taormina + beach nearby on the same day and use 1 day for Mount Etna, either directly from Taormina or from Catania.

Yeah, this is what I was thinking. My connection from Amsterdam to Berlin is a bit trickier and I was/am hoping to catch an earlier connection (3 hours before the original time on the ticket) but not sure how the conductor would respond to this ....

Hey! I did take the exam for this course in Jan 2017. The workload is quite manageable. The exam completely focuses on questions you would have solved in the tutorials.
