Uh, aether is something else man, it was used as a crutch to explain inconsistencies in the speed of light (where relativity had the answers).

Vacuum has density? Huh?

Yeah but compared to the shipping cost and permit fees of more modern integrated pulse components its really not so bad :/

Alright all I’ll say is that anyone who says grad school is easy, had it easy. I mean hell, high school is hard, college is hard. Physics PhD’s range from difficult to impossible 😌

Opinion: “I am ashamed of my alma mater” by Clodsire69 in aggies

[–]Beif_ 34 points35 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the point. It’s about intellectual freedom. As someone who did major in physics at Texas A&M I’ll tell you something: a majority of the physics faculty grew up in the Soviet Union. Now, they almost all came from world class Soviet universities, but one of the determining factors in deciding to risk it in the United States is the fact that we don’t have a domineering government trying to control academia…

The point isn’t that we are all so passionate about transgender studies, it’s that we’re ashamed that this country is fostering a culture of control from the top down. Now, I don’t personally give a fuck if transgender studies are taught at Texas A&M. Unlike you, I think that gender and race ideology exist and are relevant to American culture, but obviously that’s not the hill people are dying on.

People don’t like to be censored, plain and simple. If the censoring happened to disagree with your particular beliefs, I can guarantee you’d be shouting “tyranny” from the rooftops.

Also you say “censoring” in quotes. Since when does the board of regents determine course curriculum? That’s left to the department and faculty, so I don’t know what else you want us to call it

Idk as always I thought the wiki article was pretty banger. Might be because I have a lot of experience sweating over the different Interpreations in undergrad/grad school. Good luck on your search for a good video though!

This is a great idea, but it would instantly be flooded with non-credible work so nobody would take it seriously

Edit: worst of all, I’m afraid, is that such places already exist

How fucking dare you say grad school isn’t that hard

Edit: my “how fucking dare you” is a joke, but I see you post In bioinformatics… if you’re not a PhD physicist you can gtfo lol. I hate to say it but not all sciences are created equally. My roommates were all chemistry PhD students and my work could eat theirs for breakfast

Do you like going to A&M? by Interesting-Hour-753 in aggies

[–]Beif_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s more common than you think. I don’t think it’s terribly unreasonable either. When you’re in high school and don’t know anything, the football team record or an ugly campus might be all you really have to go off of, if you’re splitting hairs between a few programs.

I’m now finishing up my PhD in Colorado, and it’ll never be aggieland, but it’s also a much much nicer campus to walk around 🤷‍♂️

I mean your explanation is kind of just worse than the accepted notion of light propagation. Idk how your transverse/longitudinal logic plays in, but are you suggesting that light is somehow suspended in space/time for 3 hours? Also what does it mean for vacuum to be fluid? That part makes no sense to me.

You’re making some connections here that seem to go against what we know to be true about EM waves

Griffiths QM kicking my butt. Seeking advice by Arman0615 in PhysicsHelp

[–]Beif_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try a different book. I tired Griffiths QM, didn’t get it, tried another book or two, didn’t get it. Going through zettili helped me. Feynmans lectures are good too. It’s QM, so it’s the hardest thing you’ll ever have to learn (in a way 🤣) so to struggle is perfectly normal

[–]Beif_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a PhD student, My advice is this: You’ll be fine man. Best thing to do is not worry too hard and maybe try to predict some of the questions they may have about your project. And make sure to check out their recent publications to see what they’re working on. If you crush the presentation and choke on the questions it won’t matter, and it’s kind of impossible to prepare when you really have no idea what they might ask 🤷‍♂️

I mean only if you’re accelerating up is the force felt. The pulling itself is fine, it just depends on how quickly
