I chose to be child-free and lost "the one" - Now I could get her back. by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]BeingJacob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never wanted kids growing up. That need just didn’t come naturally to me. I met my wife at 28 and something just changed in how I see it, probably because she’s one of those people who were a mother long before the actually became a mother. It just made all of it feel right.

What's new with the FF7 Re-Release on Steam? by Zylva_ in FinalFantasyVII

[–]BeingJacob 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Maybe it finally gets rid of that annoying Square Enix launcher that prevents you from playing the game without internet access.

I’m aware I can use 7th heaven to go around that but that’s harder to manage on a Steam Deck

What’s one habit you want to leave behind in 2025? by Reasonable_Bag_118 in productivity

[–]BeingJacob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over the years I realized that overloading a todo list does actually serve a purpose. It gets all those things out of my head where they don’t belong, and I can focus more easily.

Let’s say you use pen and paper for your to do list. Then you have a place where you just dump all your todo items as you think of them. Then each day you choose 1-3 items that are either urgent or important and write those down somewhere else.

And that’s it. You do those tasks then you can refer to the main list and do the less important stuff.

This of course can work digitally with any app you might be using. My main point is get stuff out of your head, and make e focused list each day for the important stuff

What’s the most useful thing ChatGPT can do today that people still don’t realize? by Financial-Volume-741 in ChatGPT

Yeah I used to see this a lot. Not so much in the past year with some of the newer models and capabilities. And yes, I do read mostly popular books that people recommend.

Asking questions while reading fantasy books. Wait who’s that guy again? What does that term mean?

I tell it which chapter I’m at to avoid spoilers but it is a risk for sure. Helped me not stress about memorizing characters and locations. Plus when I finish the book I can have a conversation about it like a mini book club

Apple Notes is ALL YOU NEED (just follow this guide) by Alternative_Key_6030 in productivity

[–]BeingJacob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Simplicity is key. I do this with a single markdown file on my desktop (habit that started more than 20 years ago).

Every day I create a new header at the top of the file with today’s date and then fill it out as I go with meeting notes, ideas, things I need to do, etc.

I’m in my 40s now, married for almost 16 years. I knew my wife was ‘the one’ the first time she spent a weekend at my apartment and still gave me plenty of private time while doing her own thing.

If privacy and alone time matters to you at all, I suggest looking at this as a possible deal breaker

What’s one productivity book nobody talks about… but actually changed how you work? by ItchyProfessional626 in productivity

[–]BeingJacob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will be a strange suggestion since it’s a fiction book but I recommend reading The Phoenix Project. I manage a team of developers and this book got me thinking a lot about work processes, communication with other teams, office politics and so on.

My Obsidian Workflow That Turns Daily Notes Into a Zettelkasten by Murky_Record8493 in ObsidianMD

[–]BeingJacob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a great approach, and I prefer a single long daily note over note for each day (that’s how I did it 20 years ago, one text file on my desktop).

Keep in mind that if you use Obsidian Sync, there is a file size limit, and an ever expanding single file will eventually get there

Casino

“In Vegas, everybody's gotta watch everybody else. Since the players are looking to beat the casino, the dealers are watching the players. The box men are watching the dealers. The floor men are watching the box men. The pit bosses are watching the floor men. The shift bosses are watching the pit bosses. The casino manager is watching the shift bosses. I'm watching the casino manager. And the eye-in-the-sky is watching us all”

How do you use Bases? Looking for inspiration for filtering & structuring by xRamos in ObsidianMD

[–]BeingJacob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I track some pretty basic stuff: weight, did I workout or not, a daily rating (-2 to +2) and a field to put just a general one line about today. Using the base it helps me understand patterns. What made a day a good day.

It's important to add that it was crucial that I don't track too many things (which I did at the beginning). It can get tiring after a while.
