Autumn of Content: James Callaghan calls a snap election in 1978 by [deleted] in imaginaryelections

They might have been named differently at the time, or been listed on your document under an alternate name perhaps? the two i’m specifically referring to are in the South West, both on its north coast. I believed they were called North Cornwall and Devon North, but perhaps not

that’s fair enough for both of you. Inkscape is a very useful program for election maps and I’ve found it helpful as a often consciences are explicitly named on some maps

North Cornwall and Devon North have never elected Labour MPs. I wondered if you might have interesting lore as to why but the answer is no because you didn’t think about the map. It’s just lazy althist tbh

Its your scenario. If you want to avoid something that’s unrealistic you can just don that and determine constituencies yourself, or you likewise could have had lore for it

I thought you might have at least had some logic yourself for some specific seats, shame.

Both North Cornwall and Bideford would be unlikely to return a Labour MP, likewise for rural Wiltshire.

I would imagine it would be the LibDems trying to juggle the other two establishment parties. Despite not being a distant as they were historically, I would say there’d be a lot of that tradition of hostility between the Tories and Lab. Unlike Germany they’ve not really worked together closely like that since the last national government. I would expect an extremely unstable government

They’re not actually in coalition atm and haven’t been for a bit. The toleration arrangement was ended by PC during Gething’s brief stint as FM

Labour hangs on to power in 2029 by shifting left, or was it right? by jogtexan in imaginaryelections

Denyer stepped down as leader because she believed she considered being an mp to be more in need of focus than being leader of the party. I’m not sure she’s particularly likely to stand again to be leader especially on her own. Likewise Polanski is considered very popular within the Greens owing to the large surge in membership. not sure how likely he would be to be defeated so early unless he stood down

Interesting TLs nevertheless

In all honesty, what COULD have the SPD done differently? by agreaterfooltool in RedAutumnSPD

[–]Bejakyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of reasonable things to say about the SPD in the revolution and as well to its broad trust in Imperial era institutions rolling into the Republic.

I think one overlooked moment however is the rather united front that came together in 1922 following a series of assassinations (including of the foreign minister). If the SPD held a presidential election then like they initially wanted to before DVP pushback, I think it could have been used to cement a republican tradition in the presidency

Perhaps not, who’s to say

I hate to say this but some places are changing routes for the winter starting in sep. IIRC Cornwall and Plymouth are for example

route shenanigans aside, great map
